Old uncle “Arthur”
Nathan Wei, of arthritis-treatment-and-relief.com stated that the term arthritis is derived from the Greek term “arthron” meaning joint and “itis” meaning “inflammation”. A common nickname for Arthritis is “Old Uncle Arthur.” A personification sating that the disease is kin to everyone or that most people know someone who has it. Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints. There are many types of arthritis. Some are more serious than other, and affect people in different ways. There are several forms of arthritis. Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Psoriasis, Gonorrhea, Still’s disease, Tuberculosis, Rheumatic fever, and many more (Hildyard. Encyclopedia
of health. Vol. 2). Signs and symptoms of arthritis include (information found by Carol and Richard Eustice): * Persistent joint pain * Tenderness or pain in a joint which is aggravated by movement or activity * Loss range of motion or flexibility in a joint * Unexplained weight loss * Inflammation indicated by joint swelling, stiffness, redness, and/or warmth * Joint deformity * Extreme fatigue, lack of energy, weakness, or feeling of malaise (a feeling of bodily discomfort). * A non-specific fever * Crepitus (a crackling or grating feeling or sound under the skin around the joints).
It is recommended that if one has any signs or symptoms listed above going to the doctor is highly important. Some forms of arthritis are better early detected for treatment. Such as Psoriatic arthritis which can cause serious health problems. Early diagnosis and aggressive intervention are highly recommended (Nathan Wei. Arthritis-treatment-and-relief.com).
Osteoarthritis mainly targets people over the age of 45. Osteoarthritis is the most common joint disorder. Its cause is unknown, but its effect is wear and tear on the joints, usually affecting the hips, knees, and spine. Almost all adults have some signs of Osteoarthritis, but rarely does it become a serious problem.
