Do your parents still live in the same house you grew up in? Does a family value still thrive in your generation? Is home always where the heart is? In the story “On Going Home” the author, Joan Didion, is visiting home from her current residence in Los Angeles. Home to her, is being with her family and talking about all the memories they all used to have together and catching up with different news as well. Didion wants to give her daughter the same childhood she had when she was growing up, but she realizes that the new generation is nothing like what hers used to be. Kids do not even know over half the family members they have anymore or how they relate to them at all. They do not know that Uncle Bob used to sing and write songs and that is why we keep the old guitar in the corner. Social media is a big contributor to how we are going to relate to our children and how they are raised. Although social media may get in the way sometimes, it can never get in the way of how you love your child. Your child will always remember how you raised them to love others and how you took care of them to the best of your ability. And for a parent that easily comes naturally, that no matter what happens or what is said you love your kids to the moon and back. Sometimes you will have to tell them no but that doesn’t mean you love them any less. You can show your children a home to remember even if it is not the way shown as you got older. Different people will become the new stories you talk about during family get togethers. You will talk more about what happened on the news or what you saw on Facebook then what you heard at the supermarket in town. Being outside will not be as important anymore but being in the same room next to your parents while watching a TV show can be just as rememberable. Taking trips with your children to the zoo or aquarium is another thing you could do as well. Just because times have changed, and generations are different does not at all mean you cannot make memories out of it and create a “home” for your
