Once Symbolism
In the novel, Once by Morris Gleitzman, the author uses a carrot to symbolize hope for Felix to have a better life or go do something than go sit in a old adoption center. In my reading, these are the symbols i found that stood out. For my first one i said the carrot that was put in his soup was a symbol for Felix because he felt hope when he saw it. Because of the carrot he had the courage to go out on his own to go find his parents. In the book it reads, ¨A whole carrot. I can't believe it. Three years eight months i've been in this orphanage and I haven't had a whole carrot in my dinner bowl once. Neither has anyone else.¨ A few paragraphs after that it reads, ¨At last. Thank you God, Jesus, Mary, The Pope, and Adolf Hitler. I've waited …show more content…
This is a big symbol for Zelda and Felix. For Zelda it is a symbol of relaxation and centering for her. For Felix his escape to his world and kind of make his own that might be better than his world. When there is a big trauma or somthing bad happens in front of them, Felix would tell her a story to distract her from the bad things.
This notebook is really important to him because all of his letters to his mom and dad are in his notebook and all of his stories about his mom and dad is in that book to. Another symbol is Zelda in general because it gives Felix a sign of responsibility and even more hope that he can make through this time. She also makes him push for his best and makes him believe there is light in a dark room. I believe that Felix loves having her around. She gives Felix motivation to keep moving and for him to not give up. At the end of the book it states “No,” i say, pleading. “ We have to jump.” “I Don't want to” says Ruth, clinging to Barnie. “I don't want to” Says Jacob. “I don't want to” says Henryk. “I don't want to” says Jenek. It's not good. I know im not got to change their minds. You can't force people to believe your story. I can see Barney isn't going to try. Some people would make kids risk machien gun bullets and broken necks when they don't want to, but not Barney. “I want to” says a voice, and a warm hand squeezed mine. Its Zelda. It shows that she really trusts him with her life. It also confirms all of the things i just said about her giving Felix inspiration and showing him that she would always be by his side no matter if it was a life or death situation, like

In the book, Lord of the Flies, the author frequently uses symbolism. Symbolism-n 1: the art or practice of using symbols esp. by investing things with a symbolic meaning or by expressing the invisible or intangible by means of visible or sensuous representations. In other words, discussing or explaining a broader, more general topic by linking it symbolically with a specific event in a literary work. The superb use of symbolism in the book is one of the contributing factors to the profoundness of Lord of the Flies. This book is peppered with examples of symbolism, but the ones that stand out the most are: The breaking of Piggy's spectacles, the representation of the littluns and Jack as the "people" and the government, and Simon's conversation…

Themes in stories can be developed through many different means. It can be openly stated or just simply implied. Throughout history symbolism has been used to develop stories. Even in the bible there are multiple symbols that can be found. J.D. Salinger uses symbols to help readers understand the overall message and theme of his book The Catcher in the Rye. From Holden’s red hunting hat to Allie’s baseball mitt, symbols are constantly being thrown into the story. One other symbol that I think is highly significant is the ducks in Central Park.…

One example of a symbol in the novel is when Finny wears a pink shirt and a tie as a belt. This symbolizes Finny's outlook on authority, how he has lack of respect for it and tests it. When Finny wears the pink shirt and the tie as a belt proves how Finny can get away with anything. The Headmaster for violating the dress code at the luncheon questions him. Finny manages to talk his way out of getting in trouble for being out of dress code. His excuse was his patriotism for the bombing in Central America.…

The first part is Jack in society as a whole. Here, this blood thirsty savage is a symbol of all that is chaotic and disorderly. The tall, scrawny, “ugly without silliness” boy is constantly trying to break away from Ralph, who is orderly, and his rules. For example, Jack always breaks the rule of speaking while holding the conch. He interrupts almost everyone, especially Piggy, when they are speaking. The fact that Jack frequently picks on Piggy is a symbol of how brawn and brutality will often overwhelm intellect (Piggy represents the intellectual part of society). Jack even goes as far as to break Piggy’s glasses, another symbol of order and society, which shows how he is going to later destruct and eventually destroy every last part of normal society that remains on the island.…

"She would of been a good woman," The Misfit said, "if it had been somebody there to shoot her every minute of her life (O’Connor 153)." This quote is just one of the many that shows how Flannery O’Connor can use dialogue to make you feel hatred, love or sympathy for the characters in her stories. O’Connor is a talented writer who is the author of a lot of short stories. This story in particular is A Good Man is Hard to Find. As seen in many Flannery O’Connor stories, they contain a lot of themes and literary elements. In this one story alone there were five themes and even more elements. The themes that were in this story are: good versus evil, religion, manipulation, family, society and class. Also, a few of the elements are foreshadowing,…

This movie is saturated with symbolism even if it sometimes made no sense. I found several symbols interesting and one of them was the rum-coco. It was a symbol for Maxine’s sexuality, especially towards Shannon. Throughout the movie, Maxine continuously offers Shannon a rum-coco when she’s attempting to calm/seduce him. At the end of the movie, it is Shannon offering Maxine the rum-coco as a form of acceptance and it is implied that they finally sleep together. The birds in the cage is an interesting symbol to me because it wasn’t an obvious symbol until it was pointed out. It supposedly appeared in the background when Maxine was complaining about her confinement…
