When America left Vietnam that South Vietnamese people were most likely feeling intimidated, scared, but at the same time relieved. In the “Doc-Lap at Last” section of the article, it states “ On April 30, 1975, columns of North Vietnamese soldiers entered Saigon, meeting little resistance for the demoralized South Vietnamese army.” The phrase, “columns of soldiers,”…
Technological advancements and it 's new and heavy artillery in modern warfare have been racking up debt and upping the cost of war with the world 's most valuable currency: real human lives. The draft after World War Two forced American boys to pack up their bags and go off to war because it was their only choice- besides running away to Canada or Mexico to avoid it. Because some made it out, the effects of war lingered and were overlooked. The aftermath of the Vietnam War left veterans crippled with memories of the endless rice paddies and ghosts of their lost friends, and many of them were left with trauma disorders, like PTSD. The real cost of war wasn’t the $600 million spent on military and technology, but the 58,000 American lives lost and 350,000 Americans physically or mentally crippled as a result instead. The cost of any war is also the same: trading your sanity or your life for real life combat.…
The Vietnam War was a place of death, destruction, and confusion. Not only was the war a failure, but many soldiers were forced to fight. This lead to many negative effects that I must bring to your attention in this paper. The negative effects on soldiers during and after the war were depression, regret, desensitization, insanity, and the loss of friends.…
This war between the Australians, Papuans and the Japanese took place around the Kokoda Trail and specifically Port Moresby on the 21st of July 1942 and ended in November in the same year. It was also apart of World War II. The Kokoda Trail is a pathway that stretches out about 96km long. (Show parts of the trail) At one end, there is Ower’s Corner, which is 40 kilometers North East of Port Moresby (Show image of Owers Corner) and on the other side is a small village named Wairopi…
Many people don't know agent orange is one of the chemicals that causes the most health effects ever, and causes mass hate between people? Agent Orange was sprayed aerially to decrease vietnamese coverage, but also causes birth defects and different types of cancer. The effect to the human body, the chemicals in the mixture, and how it affected the relationship with Vietnam and the U.S was an important asset to the Vietnam war.…
Agent Orange played a major role in the Vietnam War. Without the knowledge that Agent Orange could cause more damage than good, the United States employed this chemical to defoliate the vegetation. Using the chemical was supposed to help the Soldiers shift through the foliage so they may carry out their mission. Everything was going smoothly and as planned until they realized what Agent Orange really was.…
In 1965, the United States entered into the Vietnam War. Millions of US troops were deployed during this campaign, many of whom were tasked with carrying out Operation Ranch Hand. This operation was a large scale attempt to clear out the Vietnamese forests which were difficult for American troops to move through and which provided the Viet Cong with ample cover. Gallons upon gallons of the defoliant Agent Orange were used to rid the land of the thick trees populating these forests. After the war, it was discovered that Agent Orange caused life-threatening illnesses in the soldiers who handled it, and the Vietnamese who lived in the affected jungles.…
Agent Orange is a chemical herbicide used as a defoliant by the United Stated military forces during the Vietnam War to eliminate the forest. A defoliant is a chemical that removes the leaves from trees and plants. The Vietnamese soldiers were using the forest as cover to attack the enemies. The military also sprayed a chemical mixture on the crops that were used to feed the Vietnamese army and population. The original problem that the U.S. military was trying to solve with the “Rainbow Chemicals” was to eliminate the mangroves and to expose the Vietnamese soldiers. Agent Orange was the main chemical used to try and solve the military’s problem. Along with Agent Orange there was also Agent White, Purple, Pink, Green, and Blue. All of these…
The small island of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands held little strategic value prior to World War II. Operation Watchtower, also known as the Guadalcanal Campaign, was the military operation undertaken by Allied forces, predominantly American, between 7 August 1942 and 9 February 1943 to deny the use of Guadalcanal by the Japanese in response to the threat to the supply and communication routes between the US, Australia and New Zealand. It marked the first offensive effort undertaken by American troops in the Second World War and the first amphibious operation since the Spanish American War in 1898.1…
To eliminate the advantage of terrain in which the Vietcong would hide, the US forces employed a defoliation assault. They used chemicals to destroy jungle cover and expose enemy positions. The United States used two devastating chemical from the air in order to wipe out jungles, Agent Orange, and napalm. By 1971, 20 million gallons poison were sprayed from the air on the countries of South Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. These chemicals were extremely potent and deadly.…
I have decided to do my research paper about the effects of Agent Orange on the ecosystem and environment of Vietnam and the soldiers who were fighting during the Vietnam war. This topic is one of many examples of how dangerous chemical being used for warfare also destroyed the environment. This event also caused damage to the people who were in contact with the agent and spread genetically through their descendants. I often wonder how the government can use such dangerous chemicals without thinking of the consequences it would have on the people involved. I want to understand the negative effects of agent Orange during the Vietnam war.…
War is an undeniably complex subject and although most people know how they feel about the Vietnam War, it is rare for us to agree on exactly what was right and wrong. Despite this, we have the tendency to support facts, and the fact in this case is that Agent Orange had detrimental effects wherever it was spread. Agent Orange is a herbicide that was used by the United States Military during the Vietnam war, it is made up of equal parts 2,4-D and 2,4,5-T. Its purpose was to destroy forests and enemy crops during the war (Agent Orange, 2015). Although this substance was already considered an environmental hazard, it was later found that the manufacturing of Agent Orange resulted in a dioxin byproduct. When exposed to dioxins, humans experience…
The Tet offensive began January 30 1968. The battle was one of many during the Vietnam War. There were many countries involved in the war; one side was Viet cong and North Vietnamese against the South Vietnamese and the United States with their allies. The battle got its name from the Vietnamese New Year, called Tet; it was when the first major attack took place. There were many minor attacks throughout the battle. Most of the attacks caused the U.S. along with their allies to lose power over states, they quickly reassembled and fought right back gaining back control. The U.S. inflicted many casualties upon the North Vietnamese. A particular battle, the Battle of Hue had lasted for several months and the North Vietnamese particular took full control of this battle, executed thousands. The victory had a strong effect on U.S. government; the public were shocked not thinking the enemy was capable of such a victory. The public showed zero support for the government, putting them in a situation where they had to negotiate to end the war.…
Enveloped in a state of domestic and international crisis, 1968 America was divided. The Tet Offensive ended the country’s feint hope that the war could be over soon, and racial tensions left many Americans either feeling ignored or fearful for their lives. Constant protest and riots concerning race and the Vietnam War brewed a feeling of insecurity in the country. The feelings of intense nationalism and American pride seemed to have dissolved in the wake racial conflict and Vietnam. The American virtues of freedom and equality seemed to fall wayward, and the government did not act like it was any concern. The dirge of protests concerning Black Power, the Vietnam War, and civil rights were nearly unacknowledged by Lyndon Johnson. The people…
Air Force to spray on more than 4.5 million acres of land in Vietnam to eliminate forest cover as well as food crops. This defoliant cause serious health problems. United States aircrafts were sent to drench streets, streams, trenches and farm with intense blend of herbicides. Amid this procedure, water sources and crops utilized by the local populace of South Vietnam were hit. Exposure to dioxin caused obscuring of the skin; liver issues and an extreme skin break out.…
