The author is proposing the implementation of a fast track area (FTA) to the ED to reduce overcrowding, long wait times, extended length of stays, poor patient satisfaction scores, and several patients who leave without being seen. This theory supports the proposal, as changing process in an institution requires a systematic plan, a method of implementation, and must be completed in stages.
How Organizational Change Theory Supports Proposal
The first stage of the Organizational Change Theory involves awareness. One must be able to evaluate the problem with current process and understand the possible solutions offered by an FTA. The second stage is the decision to implement the FTA. In an organization like the one the author works for, this decision involves nurses, doctors, and administrators. The third stage is the implementation of the FTA, and modifying the current workspace, staffing, and work flow to accommodate the FTA. Lastly, making the FTA a permanent part of the ED flow is the final stage in the Organizational Change Theory.
