Organizational Planning Boeing is the world’s largest aerospace manufacturing company with concentration in commercial aircraft, defense systems, and space systems (Boeing, 2013) Being the leader in the aerospace industry; Boeing is held to a higher standard in product quality, delivery times, and innovation. New opportunities and threats are constantly introduced to the company through an evolving market and these opportunities and threats strategic and operational plans to meet the goals of the company.
Strategic Plan The strategic goals of Boeing include reducing the company’s environmental footprint while expanding operations (Boeing, 2013). Many customers of Boeing are concerned with the emissions of their aircraft, resulting in a need for reduced emissions and reduced dependency on natural resources. Due to the high demand of environmentally friendly products, an opportunity has become apparent to Boeing; build aircraft that are fuel efficient and have a minimal environmental impact. The external threats of this opportunity include a highly technical and competitive market and the ability to remain innovative as the market evolves (MarketLine, 2012). Although the market is competitive and technologically advanced, there is currently no aircraft in production with a concentration on fuel efficiency and environmental impact (Boeing, 2013). The first step in reaching the company’s goals of environmentally friendly aircraft is the development of aircraft structures that are lightweight and free of natural resources. The structure shall consist of composite materials, which are lighter, efficiently manufactured with minimal environmental impact, and easily recyclable at the end of its lifecycle. The cabin furnishings shall consist of primarily recycled materials and aircraft power backed by the proven innovation of General Electric’s 787 Dreamliner fuel

The introduction of the Green Plane is a socially responsible act because Southwest introduced an environmental friendly aircraft which will create a cost savings to the company and eventually be passed down to Southwest customers. With Southwest decision to use recycled material there are many benefits to this decision and that the aircraft will be lighter by 519 lb. per aircraft which will cut down fuel consumption by 10,000 gal per flight and a cost savings of $20,000 per year, per plan. Also, by using the recycled material for the carpet and smaller square pieces; when and if a section would need replaced there is no need to tear out the entire carpet; just the piece or pieces that are damaged. By doing this the carpet can be sent back to the manufacture and be re-made and re-used at a different time and help that manufacture with job security for its employees.…
