EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This proposal analyzes the unsuccessful team work in the newly-organized marketing department staff of Jan and John Smith Company, indentifies the causes of the ineffective employee’s team work and provides recommendations how to build an effective team and organize successful decision-making discussions.
Importance of Team Work Improvements
The company has lost about $100,000 after hiring the seven new marketing department employees and starting the marketing actions designed by them. These actions have been unsuccessful. To improve the company’s financial state and provide future successful work of the marketing department it is necessary to organize effective team work in this department.
Causes of Ineffective Team Work
According to observations the research analyzes the low-effective teamwork of the employees and reveals the following causes of it: * low level of corporate culture * poor-organized teambuilding system in the department
Ways to Improve Work of the Marketing Department Employees iii To organize an effective team the company should provide a complex of actions, starting with clarifying the corporate philosophy, determining goals of an organization, forming a strategy of a company, improving corporate culture, developing team

    The Chattanooga Ice Cream case shows a decline in sales for 5 consecutive years. The Division is headed by Charles Moore. Although Charles Moore was successful in leading teams he seemed to have major issues with this team of vice presidents.     Teamwork is characterized by having a sense of purpose to achieve a clear, specific goal that all members believe is important to attain. A team can be assigned to carry out a specific project, such as seeking ways to improve profitability in a small business. A team could also be assembled to find the right candidate for a job opening. All teams should consist of members who are capable of contributing to the achievement of the goal based on their level of knowledge or expertise.     Personally, I believe that there can be many characteristics to effective teams but there are a few main characteristics that always need to be present. It takes active/good communication (i.e. speaking & listening), diversity (i.e. skill, gender, personalities, perspectives, cultures), understanding (i.e. different perspectives, different cultures, differences in personalities, etc.), goals (i.e. team performance, personal), and trust.
