Introduction to Management
Unit 7 Assignment
Abstract
In this week’s reading Chapter 11 Teamwork, I learned how teamwork and the contribution of teams to a company can contribute to the success of an organization. In this paper it will discuss how the Sandwich Blitz can use teamwork to allow Dalman and Lei more time to devote to making their business more successful and take it to the next level. This paper will also discuss how a team can address small problems with the existing operation with good results. These results will allow the owners to spend more time on helping their business grow.
When teamwork is used right it can have a powerful impact as a building block for a company like the …show more content…
Sandwich Blitz.
Teamwork can also help increase the productivity and improve the quality of the product a company produces. The first thing that the management should do to build a team it to find people that have the skill that can help complete the task given to them. They should also be able to get along with each other so that they can work together to accomplish this task. After getting the team together, the manager should give each team a specific assignment. That way each team can focus on their particular assignment and not worry about the assignments of the other teams. There should also be several managers that can get together to form a management team. These management teams would coordinate and give direction to the teams that are under them. The management teams should also lay out the ground rules of the team and what types of behavior are acceptable. After the team is organized the team should brainstorm about how to fix the problems that the Sandwich Blitz is having. They also need to stay focused on solving these problems and not get frustrated and lose interest
in solving these problems. As problems come up these teams can then focus on the most important problems and figure out a solution. If the team does not have the expertise or skills to solve a particular problem the manager might consider building another team that does have the skills to solve the problem or train the persons in the team in that particular expertise. The team members should also be trained and selected so that they can become effective in the team. Some problems can take longer than others to solve and be more complicated. The manager of the team should be able to keep the team motivated and possibly even reward them after the problem is solved. Ineffective communication can be a barrier that can make a team unable to succeed in solving problems. One way to solve this problem is to break the team down into smaller teams so that the people that are normally not going to talk in big groups will be willing to talk in the smaller team. This can help the teams build trust among other team members and will help build an effective team. Some teams can be together too long to the point where they run out of ideas. If this happens the manager could introduce new members to the team or separate two teams and divide up the members to form two new teams. Teams need to have an important performance challenge by the management and have reached an understanding and appreciate their purpose (Chapter 11 of the Bateman and Snell textbook).
After building these effective teams, Dalman will be able to focus more of his time to take the business to the next level. The teams should be successful and devote their time and energy addressing the small problems within the organization.
Conclusion
Sometimes teams can be ineffective and when this happens it can cause the team to get discouraged. It is the manager’s job to help keep the team motivated. This paper was about different ways to build an effective team and how a manager can chose team members according to their particular qualifications. Since each problem a team faces is different, there should be a variety of people with different solving problem skills in a team.
