Orthodontics Career Path

Imagine going to school for years, then finally getting to your job, and realizing you have chosen the wrong career. This happens to too many people each year. According to an article about jobs, “56 per cent of more than 2,100 U.S. workers polled by Adecco Group North America said they would pick a different career if they could choose all over again” (Wong). This statistic proves that many people choose the wrong career path, and knowing about Orthodontics can help with pursuing the right career. If someone wants to become an orthodontist they should know what degrees are needed to become an orthodontist, what an orthodontist does, and what the traits of an orthodontist are so that they know if it is a right career path for them.
One way to know what career is best for someone, is knowing what education is needed. Becoming an orthodontist requires an undergraduate degree, a Graduate from Dental School, completion of a Postgraduate Orthodontics Program, and becoming licensed (“How to Become an Orthodontist”). Knowing this might change someone's opinion on what career path they should choose. In the beginning “it takes several years to become an orthodontist. You’ll
typically need to spend 2-4 years in an undergraduate program, four years in dental school and 2-3 years in a postgraduate orthodontics program” (“How to Become an Orthodontist”). If one might want to pursue this career knows this, they might realize that this is or might not be the career for them. Then “after completing a dental program, you’ll need to apply to orthodontic specialty programs” (“How to Become an Orthodontist”). Knowing all this will help someone know if Orthodontics is the right career path for them.
Another way to know what career is best for someone, is knowing what the job they are looking at is and what the job’s work is. To become an Orthodontist they need to be able to diagnose diseases and disorders, along with being able to treat physical problems (“Orthodontist”). If someone is thinking about becoming an orthodontist, then they need to know this, so they are sure they are not choosing the wrong career. If someone is thinking about becoming an orthodontist they should know that, “orthodontists are dentists who specialize in straightening teeth. As an orthodontist, you'll use devices such as braces that apply pressure to the teeth and slowly readjust their positions in the gums” (“How to Become an Orthodontist”). If you would be interested in this, Orthodontics might be for you. When someone becomes an orthodontist they have to know how to, “conduct examinations, apply and adjust braces or appliances to straighten teeth” (“How to Become an Orthodontist”). If someone wants to become an orthodontist, they should know the traits and interests of an orthodontist, and how they are like.
Orthodontists are “doers”, and they like to do hands on projects to find answers (“Orthodontist”). If you also like to do hands on projects, then this career might be right for you. Orthodontists are also “thinkers”, and they like to look at problems from different angles to find the answer (“Orthodontist”). If you like challenging yourself then Orthodontics can be your career path. Orthodontists like to help others, and they like being with people and helping them (“Orthodontist”). If these interests are similar to yours, and you like to do these things, then you might want to consider Orthodontics, and this might be able to prevent you from making the wrong career
path.
Knowing what education and degrees are needed, what an orthodontist is and what they do, and the traits of an orthodontist and what interests them will help someone not be in a career that is not for them. If someone knows this, it might change their view on their career path. This can show someone what they really want to do. In the end, knowing this can show people, who are thinking of different careers, which career is better for them.
