Introduction
In this assignment, I will be using meta-theoretical assumptions to compare on the two perspectives of Modernist and Post Modernist, further explaining on Power, Control and Conflict. After which, giving a short introduction of Apple and link how the two perspectives examine Apple’s organisational network and influence, and finally coming to a conclusion.
Theoretical Framework
The difference between a Modernist and Post Modernist within their meta-theoretical assumptions, both Ontology and Epistemology.
Modernist
Ontology is our conjecture about reality and what is real. The Modernist has an objectivism view in Ontology. “An ontological position that asserts that social phenomenon and their meanings have an existence that is independent of social actors“(In Bryman 2003). This means, in every organisation, there are rules, a system of working, protocols or the instructions of superiors to adhere to in getting things done. For example, the general manager instructs the managers on what needs to be done, a single manager from that specific branch then splits the job among the executive to be done. The executives then learn and apply the values in the mission statement to carry out their work. This show the hierarchy system, and violation of this system may cause them to be reprimanded or even fired. “The organisation is therefore a constraining force that acts on and inhabits its members” (In Bryman 2003).
Epistemology is how one gains knowledge. The Modernist has a positivism view in Epistemology. “An epistemological position that advocates the application of the methods of the natural sciences to the study of the social reality and beyond.”(In Bryman 2003).Scientific methods are involved in deriving the truth. Data is collected through research and studies, and from these studies, theories are derived and explanations are made.
Post-Modernist
For the Post Modernist view
