Bismarck made Germany stand as one of the most powerful and great nations in Europe. The larger-than-life figure who presided over Germany's rise was Otto von Bismarck, foreign minister and minister-president of Prussia during the 1860s, architect of German unification in 1871, and chancellor of a unified German empire from 1871 to 1890. Bismarck modernised and unified all of Germany. He also started wars with Denmark, Austria, and France to gain 39 German states. Bismarck created universal male suffrage and the first welfare state in Germany. He manipulated Europe, and from doing that made Germany a world power.

He disliked socialism so much he worked with Catholics, which he didn’t like either. To stop the socialists he created anti-socialist laws, and to make them less popular he did things that the socialists would do if they were in power. This is why he made programs for healthcare and accident insurance. Bismarck also created the first social security. The skillful execution of this strategy allowed him to keep control over the legislative agenda for 20 years, despite his lack of a natural parliamentary majority and the growing power of the middle and working classes
