During the same year, a Catholic bishop and his counterparts were murdered by the Ottomans because they had refused to reject Christianity and the teachings of the Christ. This is another event that shows how the conflict of religion, especially with Christianity, is coming into a clearer focus. It is important because, once again, this shows the religious differences the Ottomans had with the Christians and what the consequences were.
During the course of four years from 1914 to 1918, World War I, the Ottomans had sided with Germany which resulted in them losing control over the East. This means that the Ottomans lost, which signaled the end of Ottoman rule. That was the end of the Ottomans’ 400 years in power. While during World War I, another religious conflict against the Christians came into play: the Ottomans and their allies carried out genocide against Christians. Also, during World War I, the French and the British secretly agreed on the division of the Ottoman Empire. This resulted in the Sykes-Picot agreement of 1916.
