Some Christians believe that the conscience comes from the soul, and as God gives the soul to us, our conscience is the best guide to what is right and wrong.
However other Christians believe that the conscience consists of an angel and a devil making it too unreliable to listen to as you could easily be shown the wrong bath. As well as this, some Theists and Atheist who may not believe in God may argue the conscience is the best guide as it is personal to you and your morals.
Other Christians believe that listening to a Holy Person such as Jesus or the Pope is the best guide to what is right and wrong as they are directly linked to God. Some Christians carry the motto ‘WWJD’ or ‘What would Jesus do?’ to help them see what is right and wrong. As well as this, some of Jesus’s teachings – such as the ‘Good Samaritan’ – have stood the test of time, which makes them reliable.
However some Theists may believe that Jesus and the Pope have unattainable standards, also that Jesus’s and the Pope’s teachings are too Absolute and have no leeway for personal circumstances.
Some Christians may believe the Church is the best guide to what is right and wrong as the Church follows the persons religion, and the Church may have a personal connection with you, much like your conscience, and the teachings given out by a local Minister may be more Relative than a teaching given out by the Church.
Other Christians may prefer other things to guide them as they feel they should keep their personal issues away from a place of worship. As well as this they may feel a small local Church may not deal with the bigger issues and may not have an answer to their problem in the first place.
Some Christians believe the Bible is the best guide to what is right and wrong, as it states in the Bible – “All scripture is God breathed and is useful” (1 Timothy). This means that the Bible is still connected to God and should still be referred to in personal crisis. These Christians may believe that the Bible contains very useful parables and stories that can help guide you to what is wrong and right.
However, other Christians may believe that whilst the Bible is good, the Bible is becoming more and more out-dated as the teaching are too Absolute for a modern society, especially for things such as the rights of a woman and Condoms.
I believe the best guide to what is right and wrong is still the conscience as it is not only your opinions, it has been influenced by many other peoples opinion, such as the Church or your family.
