Topic: Cultural sharing
General Purpose: To inform
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience the importance of cultural sharing.
Central Idea: There are three importance of cultural sharing in Malaysia. They are importance of Malay language, understanding cultural interaction and architecture in Malaysia.
Introduction
What is cultural sharing? Language is a culture and culture is learned behavior. If you notice it, cultural sharing is all around us. It is in the media, television, movies, parenting class, day care center and etc.
Body
1. Malay language
Malay is the national language given Malaysia’s cultural diversity, it is not unusual for Malaysians to be more proficient in English and their culture’s language than in Malay.
2. Understanding cultural interaction
Cultures have been meeting and mixing in Malaysia since the very beginning of its history. Malaysia’s cultural mosaic marked by many different cultures, but several in particular has had especially lasting influence on the country. The first Chinese to settle in straits, primarily in and around Malacca, gradually adopted elements of Malaysia culture and intermarried with the Malaysian community knows as babas and nonyas.
3. Architecture
Architecture in Malaysia is a combination of many styles from Islamic and Chinese styles to those brought by European colonists. New materials such as glass and nails are brought by Europeans. Islamic styles are made using common materials such as bamboo and leaves. Chinese architecture can be divide into two types, traditional and Baba Nyonya. Baba Nyonya households are made of colorful tiles and have large indoor courtyards.
Conclusion
Grown up in a diversity country, it is very important to understand others cultures as well in order to live in a harmony country.
