Calpurnia is eleven years old she has six brothers. She live in a house with her brothers, mom, dad, and grandfather. She loves science and that's one thing her and her grandfather bond over. Calpurnia has to balance her own independence and curious personality. Calpurnia facing becoming a “woman”. She becomes comfortable in her own skin and in being a girl. Calpurnia basically forces a relationship with her grandfather. On the good side Calpurnia grows a nice relationship with her grandfather. At the end everything ends well.
The story ends in the beginning of the new century of 1900. Calpurnia wakes up feeling different she feels like a whole new person. She goes downstairs to see her grandfather drinking his morning cup of coffee. The message is you should be loving and caring to everyone. It applies to everyone because not everyone is very loving or caring. It does apply to me because I can be kind of loving but I am caring.
I didn’t personally like the book I thought it wasn’t very exciting. Maybe if the book was more exciting or had more twist or turns it would be more enjoyable. It did change my attitude about boys being smarter than girls but even when Calpurnia was talk all science to her brother he had no idea what she was talking about. I probably would not recommend this book unless you're more into having the same idea throughout the whole
