Caring can be separated into two areas; caring for someone and caring about someone. Caring for someone refers to caring for their physical needs, medical treatment and procedures. This would be done by developing a suitable care plan for the patient, as they should now have a better knowledge of the support system the patient will have while recovering, during their stay in the hospital and at home after they are discharged, and if necessary, what supports could be put in place to further help. It also aims to get the patient doing as much as possible for themselves in terms of their activities of daily living, this helps the patient maintain their independence and helps makes the transition of leaving the hospital to going home easier as they are not relying on others unnecessarily (Selimen and Andsoy, 2011).
