Another way the theme goes out is through the conflict. The conflict in the story was that the two rival gangs go up against each other but one gang goes to far. That shows how to stay gold because you have to look past all of the mayhem and keep moving forward. Lastly the way the the theme expresses itself is through the setting. The setting is a rough town with kids and secrets. The setting expresses to stay gold even though you live in harsh neighborhood you should still strive to be the be the best you can.
