Pacific War Inevitable
July 28, 1914 would be the beginning of what was called World War I or “The Great War” because it was meant to be the war to end all wars. Until September 1, 1939 when the inevitable World War II broke out and to this day there is still no one event which is said to be the origin of this war. The years between these two great wars would be a very unstable time period for the economy partially due to the Great Depression that would shock the world beginning around 1930. December 8, 1941 a rough date the would forever be remembered as the beginning of the pacific war. Sometimes called the Asia- Pacific war, the pacific war was a war between Thailand, Japanese puppet states and the Empire of Japan against the US, britain and Australia during …show more content…
Ironiconically, it was supposedly unable to be penetrated. After just a single week the Commonwealth troops would surrender causing upwards of 80,000 troop including the commander to be forced to become prisoners of war and Singapore would be lost to the Japanese. After 7 days of fighting on February 15, 1942 the Commonwealth troops had already suffered over 5,000 casualties. The fall of Singapore really showed us the war tactics and the lengths that Japan would go in the far east. Speed and Savagery, two words the Japanese army could be described as at this time. They would strike quickly and without warning. The Japanese would travel on bikes and be able to arrive and attack silently before the british even knew what hit them. In the end when the dust would settle the Japanese would have captured Singapore leaving the british dismantled and needing to be rebuilt. The Battle of Midway, beginning only 6 months after Japans attack on pearl harbor. One Admiral Yamamoto said that post pearl harbor the japanese would only be able to hold power over the U.S. for 6 months to a year. One of the first major encounters in the pacific between Japanese forces and the U.S.. The battle of midway would take place in early june of 1942, just a few days that would have a major impact on the future course of the conflict between the two

Walker 1“The Decisive Battle of Midway”Circumstances can change rapidly. These changes that occur rapidly may not be fullyunderstood until years later, if at all. The same can be said of the Battle of Midway. The Battle of Midway was June 4-7, 1942 and was a pivotal naval battle in the Pacific Theater of World War II(Crisman). Momentum can change due to any set of factors. The Japanese objective of the Pacific Theater was to dominate the Pacific Ocean and theIndian Ocean (Crisman). If the Japanese were able to dominate the Pacific Ocean and IndianOcean, the Japanese clearly would have had much more territory in order to do what they saw fit.Clearly they could have moved men and goods across that water instead of having to move thesame things…

Wars are large and complicated affairs. The first word war was the product of many, many things. Although the war officially began on July 28th, 1914, it had been building up for a while. The beginning of the war was much like a domino affect. It started when Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. On July 29, Russia ordered a mobilization only against Austria-Hungary in support of Serbia. The Germans threatened war on July 31 if the Russians did not demobilize. France then mobilized. On August 1, Germany declared war on Russia, and two days later, on France. The German invasion of Belgium to attack France, which violated Belgium's official neutrality, prompted Britain to declare war on Germany. World War I had begun. Nationalism, militarism, and imperialism all prompted the rivalry between nations which led to WWI.…

The Battle of Midway is one of the most famous battles from World War II. It took place in the Pacific theater between 4 and 7 June 1942. This was only six months after the Japanese had devastatingly bombed Pearl Harbor propelling the United States to join the war. Despite the short time-frame for the U.S. being involved in the war, Midway would prove to be the turning point in the Pacific and if the U.S. had not managed to preserve that tiny atoll the Pacific Ocean could very well be dominated to this day by an Imperial Japanese Force. There is but one reason why the U.S. was successful over those three days, and that is the daring feats achieved by the naval aviators aboard the USS Yorktown, USS Hornet, and USS Enterprise. In other words, naval aviation won the war in the Pacific for the United States due to the skill and tactics…

God’s participation in the battle tactics of WW II occurred at the very onset. Just four months after Pearl Harbor sneak strike, on April of 1942, Colonel James Doolittle a B-25 bomber pilot, organized a surprise attack on Tokyo, Osaka, and two other Japanese cities. These raids undermined the complacency of the Japanese commanders who assured their populace that American aircraft could never reach their homeland. After this surprising bombing raid launched from aircraft carriers, sixteen American B-25 bombers that flew directly to China and were rescued by Chinese peasants who hated the Japanese for their past atrocities. Consistent with their history of “crimes against humanity, Tojo retaliated by executing thousands of Chinese peasants…

On December 7, 1941, America entered the Second World War, when Japan attacked US ships at Pearl Harbor. Even though the Nazis were defeated in May of 1945, the Japanese were relentless in their imperialistic pursuit to show their power. There was already a power struggle between the Japanese, Chinese, and Russia. But in 1941, they even challenged America, which brought the US into the war. The struggle for Guadalcanal, in August of 1942, initiated by the US marines and lasting for several months, US forces realized the ruthlessness of the Japanese troops, with their banzai and suicidal bayonet attacks at night.…

First of September 1939 the world was about to change again as the Second World War commenced ironically and tragically, the events which occurred at the end of WWI were destined to trigger WWII especially when the Treaty of Versailles was put into place. Not everyone was happy with the treaty. Adolf Hitler invaded Poland on 1st September 1939, triggering the WWII. Japan then started to invade South East Asia and posing a threat to Australia, this encouraged the Australians to enlist to defend their country. This resulted in many falling into the hands of their enemy, the Japanese. When Japan entered the war as they were also dis-satisfied with their treatment in the treaty, a whole number of issues arose, in addition to the ongoing war in Europe.…

H.G Wells said, the Great War was supposed to be “the war to end all wars”; ironically enough a few years later a second world war broke out due to Germany feeling like the Treaty of Versailles treated them unfairly and the League of Nations having little to no power. World War II started on September 1. 1939 and ended nearly six years later on September 2, 1945. The war was long and bloody with nearly sixty million civilians and soldier casualties combined (according to nationalww2museum.org). There were five major turning points in World War II.…

Following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Japan was able to pursue their other military objectives in the Pacific region, including Malaya and Singapore, without the potential interference of American armies. This brought about the invasion of Singapore by the Japanese as they were considered to be an important military base of the British Empire. It served as a major shipping and trading centre and naval base for British interests in South-East Asia. However, after a disastrous campaign on the Malay peninsula, the British and Australian troops retreated. The British then sent the newly built HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse to assist their defence armies, but the Japanese sunk their ships with torpedo bombers before they had even arrived. The Japanese were well prepared for the invasion of Singapore with heavy bombardment. On the night…

Given the events of World War I and the Interwar Years, conflict was inevitable. With the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, many countries felt betrayed. The chaos produced by the war led to the rise to power of fascist and communist dictators, who provided a sense of stability and certainty to countries in turmoil. This increase in totalitarian regimes led to an ideological gap within Europe that could not be overcome through negotiations. Each side, each country, felt that their system and way of life was the only correct one. Therefore, they were willing to fight to spread their views. In addition to the ideological gap, there was a feeling within some countries, such as Germany, that they had to prove their strength. For Germany, it…

and Kuala Lumpur on 11 January 1942. They advanced down the east coast, centre and west coast simultaneously and by the end of the month had taken Johor Bahru and were massed across the strait from Singapore. By 15 February they had forced the capitulation of the Allies in Singapore. This was a crushing blow, and, according to Malaysian historian Zainal Abidin bin Abudul Wahid, “the speed with which the Japanese managed to achieve victory, however temporary that might have been, shattered the image of the British, and generally the 'whiteman', as a superior people”. Right up until the beginning of the Second World War, the British had managed to placate the aristocratic leaders of the Malay community and the wealthy Chinese merchants and there was little real threat to the status quo. The Japanese defeat of the British changed all that by altering the balance between conservatism and change. Because Britain had failed so miserably to defend Malaya, its credentials as a protector were irrevocably tarnished.…
