The ovaries are the main reproductive organs in a female. The ovaries produce gametes and have many purposes. Each ovary is 3.5 cm in length, close to 2 cm wide, and about 1 cm thick. One of the main function of the ovaries is producing hormones; estrogen and progesterone. Estrogen is for estrogenic effects. There are paired ovaries that flank the uterus.
