PAKISTAN’S WIND ENERGY PROGRAMME
Wind Energy Potential in Pakistan
Pakistan is gifted with immense wind resource. The wind map of
Pakistan, developed after and extensive analysis carried out by National
Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) , USA in collaboration with USAID,
PMD and AEDB using data available from PMD met sites and satellite imaginary, indicates that major wind resource areas are located in southeastern Pakistan and Elevated mountain summits Pakistan,
Central Pakistan and Elevate mountain summits and ridge crests especially in northern Pakistan. The Gharo ~ Keti Bander Wind Corridor
, spreading approximately 60 Km Along the coastline of Sindh Province and more than 170 Km deep into the hinterland alone has a potential to generate over 60,000 MW of electricity.
Government’s Vision The Government of Pakistan (GOP) is diversifying its energy mix on fast track basis to ensure Energy Security, Sustainable Development, Social
Equity and Environmental Protection, Wind energy resources are abundantly economical generation of power. Therefore, wind energy is envisaged as an important ingredient of its future energy mix.
Keeping in view the huge potential and the anticipated future energy needs, The GOP has set a target of at least 5% ( to be checked ) of the total national power generation capacity (i.e. 9700 MW ) to be generated through renewable energy technologies, especially through wind energy by the year 2030.
AEDB
Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) was established with a mandate to:‐
• Implement policies, programs and projects through private sector in the field
