Thus, through this paper I will explain my understanding on how people grow according to Cloud and Townsend. In addition, I will critique the book comparing it with two of the systems of integration presented in class by Drs. Nesbit and Hasz. To accomplishing it this paper has been divided in three areas. The first explains my personal understanding about what Cloud and Townsend (2001) say about how people grow. The second area compares this book with two systems of integration, which are Biblical counseling and the Integration approach. Finally, the rest of the paper focuses on reflection and application as a resource for clients.…

    Spirit Led Preaching

“As much as preaching to day needs the authority of God’s Word, it also needs the power of the Holy Spirit. In addition to our strong emphases on the text of Scripture, we must place and equally strong emphasis on the Holy Spirit, who empowers us to preach the Scriptures. The resurgence of expository preaching has lacked a fresh and substantive look at the Spirit’s role in preaching. We cannot separate the Word from the Spirit or the Spirit from the Word; we need both the Spirit and the Word to powerfully proclaim the Scriptures”.…

As I further reflected on this audit I found that while most of the time I lead by the power of the Holy Spirit there are times when I launch out ahead of the Holy Spirit on my own. I often find myself praying that I would not get ahead of the Spirit but if I am honest I will admit that I get excited or at times frustrated and move out on my own. This was a good reminder for me that I must always be sensitive to God’s Spirit as I lead others making sure that I am staying in stride with God’s Spirit and not pulling ahead or falling behind.…

After conducting two interviews on two different ministers in different seasons of their lives, I found that their answers helped show how authentic leadership is feasible in today’s society. First and foremost to be authentic spiritual disciplines must be evident in one’s life. If leaders desire to be successful in ministry and do not follow a plan to remain close to God through prayer, meditation and the Word, one will not be successful. As Dr. Foster pointed out in the interview, we choose if we want to succeed or set ourselves up for failure. We must prepare ourselves daily we are an open door for the enemy to come into our lives if we are not prepared spiritually.…

The course, Intimacy With the Holy Spirit, is in my opinion one of the most essential courses for any biblical study much less a requirement for a minister of the gospel. The study of the Holy Spirit is probably one of the most neglected opportunities in Christian maturation. Many churches do not teach on or about the Holy Spirit from the pulpit, the classroom, or during any discipleship course. My heart is much like that of Moses; I do not want to dwell where the Spirit of God is not. I want the Holy Spirit to lead, guide, and direct me throughout life.…

    The Calling of Missionary

What is a missionary call? How does one recognize that God is calling him or her into an international mission field or to local mission? Before we can answer the above questions, we must firstly define what is the meaning of the word “Missionary”. One person defines a missionary is someone sent by Jesus Christ just as He was sent by God. Here the great controlling factor is not the needs of people, but the command of Jesus. Another definition for a missionary is any Christian who crosses cultural boundaries to further the building of Christ’s church and the expansion of God’s kingdom. In a sense, Jesus Christ was our prime missionary example in that he crossed from the kingdom culture and lived his life for three and half years in a new culture known as earthly kingdom.…

    Spiritual Formation

In chapter 14 to 16 of the gospel of John, Jesus talks to his disciples about the promise of the Holy Spirit, who would come after Jesus died on the cross and was ascended. He describes some of the works and roles of the Holy Spirit, in order that his disciples will know what to expect. The words of Jesus about the Holy Spirit are just as relevant to us today. It is vital for us to understand that the Holy Spirit is God, and that He is always present with us, to help us draw closer to God. Drawing closer to God is the goal of the Christian’s life. “Christ is the very source of the church’s life, and so to be in the church is to experience Christ’s life in a unique way. By his Spirit he directs the church, gives spiritual gifts to its members and creates unity and love.” (Bewes, The Pocket Handbook of Christian Truth, Section 8). God has a unique way to relate to every believer. Spiritual formation, through the work of the Holy Spirit, is how believers maintain and increase their fire and passion for God, while becoming more like Jesus. “Sanctification is an immediate work of the Spirit of God on the souls of believers, purifying and cleansing their natures from the pollution and uncleanness of sin, renewing in them the image of God, and thereby enabling them, from a spiritual and habitual principle of grace, to yield obedience unto God, according unto the tenor and terms of the new covenant, by virtue of the life and death of Jesus Christ. Or, more briefly, it is the universal renovation of our natures by the Holy Spirit into the image of God through Jesus Christ….” (John Owen, quoted by…

The mind is a trust from God. The cultivated mind is the measure of the man. The mind is to be educated that the best energies of the soul will be brought out and every faculty be developed. We must not be contented with a low standard. We are to move onward from one advanced line of work to another. The mind is the best possession we have; but it must be trained by study, by reflection, by learning in the school of Christ, the best and truest educator the world has ever known. Because every faculty of the mind shows that God designed these faculties to be used, not to remain inactive. The positiveness and energy, the solidity and strength of character manifested in Christ are to be developed in us through the same discipline that He endured.…
