Paraphimosis Research Paper
What is Retract Penis in Cats?

Both paraphimosis and phimosis are medical urologic conditions that can occur in the male cat. Paraphimosis is the inability for a cat to retract its penis back into its sheath. The condition typically occurs following an erection. Phimosis is a medical condition that occurs when the cat isn't able to protrude its penis from its sheath, which can cause problems with urination and breeding.

While paraphimosis can be a medical emergency that needs immediate attention, phimosis doesn't normally pose a medical problem unless breeding is desired or urination is affected.

Symptoms of Retract Penis in Cats

Paraphimosis typically occurs immediately or soon after breeding or semen collection. The symptoms of paraphimosis include:

These tests may include blood tests, X-rays and/or ultrasounds. If the paraphimosis or phimosis has caused a block in the flow of urine, a urinalysis may be performed in order to determine if a urinary tract infection is

There are 2 key ways to find out that you have it and there are other small symptoms that indicate the infection. A sore or blister may start where the cat had bitten or scratched you, it will take 3 to 10 days from the day of the incident and it will take a long time for the blister to properly heal. An infection of the lymph nodes will show up near the infected spot of where the cat had gotten you. The lymph nodes will grow bigger in size and swell up to more than an inch larger.
