Parents Are Too Permissive with Their Children Nowadays
Few people would defend the Victorian attitude to children, but if you were a parent in those days, at least you know where you stood: children were to be seen and not heard. Freud and company did away with all that and parents have been bewildered ever seen. The child’s happiness is all important, the psychologists say, but what about the parent’s happiness? Parents suffer constantly from fear and guilt while their children gaily romp about pulling the place part. A good old-rearing manual would permit such barbarity. The trouble is you are not allowed even to shout. Who knows what deep psychological wounds you might inflict? The poor child may never recover from the dreadful traumatic experience. So too is that parents bend over backwards to avoid giving their children, complexes which a hundred years ago hadn’t even heard of. Certainly a child needs love, and a lot of it. But the excessive permissiveness of modern parents is surely doing more harm than good.
Psychologists have succeeded in undermining parent’s confidence in their own authority. And it hasn’t taken children long to get wind of the fact. In addition to the great modern classics on children care, there are countless articles in magazines and newspapers. With so much unsolicited advice flying about, mum and dad just don’t know that to do anymore. In the end, they do nothing at all. So, from early childhood, the kids are in changes and parents lives are regulated according to the needs of their offspring. When the little dears develop into teenagers, they take complete control. Lax authority over the years makes adolescent rebellion against parents the entire move violent. If the young people are going to have a party for instance, parents are asked to leave the house. Their presence merely spoils the fun. What else can the poor parents do but obey?
Children are hardly creatures (far harder than the psychologists would have us believe) and most of them survive the harmful in influence of extreme

At this point, my parents with their individual viewpoint started to have variance on me adapting to the new environment. Having different perspective towards society's operation caused tension within our family. Now the question arises," Don't parents realize that too much parental control halts child's personal growth?" Such type of parenting style is referred to as authoritarian. "Authoritarian parents utilize strict and harsh child rearing techniques with an absolute set of standards to which children must conform while permissive parents provide too few rules, boundaries, or restrictions for their children" (Chong, et al 1). Parents must not adopt authoritarian parenting style as it contributes to such behavior which is never welcomed by them when presented and further leads to tension within the family. This parenting style develops such consequences which leave kids down with psychological and personality disorders, consisting problems like fear of failing at each step of life, withdrawing oneself from socializing and turning out to be authoritarian towards parents as an…

During the late 19th century, cruelty remained the criterion. In the past there were no laws to protect and children were perceived as property of their family (Hendrick, 2003). Cruelty was found to mostly take place within families and school, and was justified as “discipline” (Bilston, 2006). Throughout this time, parental rights were seen as paramount and it was them who understood what was best for their children. Although within a child’s early years this is a time for developing their own thoughts and opinions; these were not valid as the parent’s choice would override their child’s decisions. Young children need to feel a sense of security and belonging, and rely on adults to meet their needs and care for…

Children do not come with guidelines or instructions. What they do come with is a crucial set of physical and emotional needs that need to be met. To raise children properly, parents duties are not limited to just food, shelter and protection. Parents are largely responsible for their children’s success in life. Parents are required to teach and educate children. They have to shape knowledge and character into their children to prepare them to face the real world. To be successful with this, parents must provide self esteem needs, teach moral and values and provide discipline that is both effective and appropriate. As the generations have changed, many parenting styles have evolved, as well. While growing up my mother was always more of an authoritarian parent. As I have grown up and have children on my own, I choose not to parent with the same parenting methods that she had used. I am more of an authoritative parent. There are great differences in both my mother’s and my parenting styles, such as parental responsiveness and parental demandingness; however the largest disparity is the end result: the children.…

Parents are usually very warm, caring and loving to their children, but are not assertive or controlling, there are no demands from these parents (Wentzel & Russel 2009). Hence the reason why this parenting style has been highly associated with children’s and adolescents’ underachievement (Onatsu-Arvilommi & Nurmi, as cited in Aunola et al., 2000). The permissive parent promotes immaturity as well as lack of impulse control and self-reliance, the child also exhibits a lack of independence and social and cognitive competence (Baumrind, as cited in Starr,…

The first and biggest problem in today’s children is that they are getting spoiled beyond belief. When kids are spoiled the way they are being spoiled today it sets them up to fail in their future lives. Brenda Scottsdale a licensed psychologist and author for livestrong.com states, “Spoiling your children can be harmful to them both socially and developmentally. Since children who are spoiled often do not have to learn to solve their own problems, they can lack the life skills necessary to successfully negotiate the demands of adulthood.” When it comes time for these children to manage their money and make financial decisions in their own life they will struggle and rely on their parents to bail them out as they have done repeatedly in the past. In their adult years, lacking these skills makes these people lazy, angry, and unhappy with themselves. The second root cause in poorly acting children today is being neglected or lacking a positive role model at home. According to Hannah Richardson, a BBC education reporter, “When teachers were asked about the root cause of poor behaviour, three quarters blamed a lack of positive role models at home.” When children don’t have a structured upbringing with discipline in place, they struggle to make the right decisions in life that would keep them out of trouble. There was a study that suggested forty-two percent of students causing trouble today have been…

A child’s behavior is much worse today than it was ten years ago. Children are talking back to their parents and doing what they want to do. Parents are definitely not in control like they used to be. , my opinion is that we are too quick to put blame on the situation before we look at the facts...if a child needs a pat on the behind to get they to calm down, then so be it. That does not mean the child needs to be beaten...sometimes, I think that parent needs that beaten worst. Most of the time the child is in need of your calm voice they need your attention a good attention not a bad attention. And sometimes the child just needs to be left alone. I remember when I was growing up; I wouldn't even dare to talk back...and didn't even want to think what would happen to me if I did so. I was raise to respect my elders. Say “Yes Mama”, “No Mama” or “Yes Sir” or” No Sir”. Whether someone gives you something or you asked for something; say…

A certain amount of experimentation – with rebellion, imitation, and changes of image and attitude – is probably necessary before they can form a real sense of what they want and how to go about getting it.
