When I started to read the story, in the second chapter “Why Chicken Means So Much to Me” I can feel myself sadness because I began to think that many people is poor in front of our eyes and people is like ignoring that reality. When Arnold says, “And believe me, a good piece of chicken can make anybody believe in the existence of God.” , is impacting for me because Arnold is manifesting a feeling of doubt about the existence of God and that is a consequence of being poor. Many times in our life people are complaining because they don’t have iPad, new cars or iPhones, but people is not thinking in that exist people that are very poor and they will give anything to have the things that people have such education or food. Arnold again has this feeling of why he is poor when more lately he says “More than anything, I wanted to kill God.” In this strong sentence is demonstrated a feel of angry and hates to God because all the bad things that are happening. In the begin of the novel is mention that Indians are poor and when people live in unpleasant conditions is hard to don’t feel envy or guilt about your destiny. In order to forget reality, people want to drink alcohol. In the novel I can mention Arnold’s father, he is poor but he spend the money in alcohol. Only he saves his last five dollars to give to Arnold. This is a situation that many people are facing in these days.
