What is the purpose of this study?
The researcher aims at classroom setting, seeking factors influence academic achievement of international students. Insights from learner’s perspective would help create an awareness for faculty to understand student diversity. insight towards teaching and learning in the classroom. At the same time, you may take this opportunity to explore your learning style and develop learning strategies.
Do I have to take part?
No. Participation is entirely voluntary. If you change your mind about taking part in the study you can withdraw at any point up to the point at which you submit your response to the online survey. The anonymous nature of the survey means that it is not possible to withdraw your data from the study once you have submitted your response. What will happen to me if I take part?
You will be invited to complete an online questionnaire in which you will be asked questions related to studying habits, learning style (VARK questionnaire), opinions on teaching methods in the class etc. The researcher would like to find out how language proficiency (IELTS, TOFEL level), learning styles, education background (Admission GPA), teaching methods impact on your academic achievement (GPA). You will be asked to offer your academic results voluntary.
What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part?
The greatest disadvantage of taking part is the impact on your time. We expect the survey to take approximately 10 mins to complete. It is not anticipated that there will be any other negative consequences for you as a result of taking part in the study. What are the possible benefits of taking part?
You will have chance to win a£30 gift voucher from BOOTS pharmacy by lucky draw. What if something goes
wrong? We have piloted/tested the survey and do not anticipate any problems; however, if you experience any difficulties in completing the survey, please contact the lead researcher using the contact details at the end of this document. Will my taking part in this study be kept confidential?
Yes. We will not be recording your full name, personal details. Only the researchers will have access to the online survey responses. The online survey responses will be stored on password computer and kept for one year after the completion of the study and securely destroyed at the end of January 2018. What will happen to the results of the study?
The findings from the online survey will be used for dissertation data collection. It might also be presented at relevant discussion and written up for publication in peer reviewed journals. Who is organizing and funding the research? The research is being conducted by Jiajue Wang (Coventry University) and it is self-funded. Who has reviewed the study?
The study has been reviewed and approved by the project’s Steering Group, Coventry University’s Peer Review Ethics process. If you have further inquiry, please contact Jiajue via wangj103@uni.coventry.ac.uk.
