All individuals are affected by their family (Kaakinen, Coehlo, Steele, Tabacco, & Hanson, 2015). Today nurses realize the importance of the family unit on the overall wellbeing of the individual and by including the family into the patients care, it increases the positive outcomes for both (Svavarsdottir et al., 2015). We will review a patient I had many years ago and discuss the child and his health needs in regards to how it affects him, his family, the family functioning and the family interactions with community resources.…

Good morning, this is Shelby Swalec and I wanted to apologize for my behavior last week. Between my health issues and expectations from school, I was not thinking clearly about my decision to attend lecture before meeting with you. I'm sorry for talking to Ed, Pam, and Gail before contacting you, I didn't mean to get the wonderful nursing professors involved in my issues. I realize that this program interruption is the best thing for me to get back on track.…

It’s amazing how much I’ve learned in the past eight months at Fortis Institute. It’s just so hard to believe that less than two weeks we will be done with my education. I must admit I will miss spending my time here. But most of all I will never forget the experience I received as an Intern Medical Assistant working with Patients.
Making a difference in someone’s life just fascinates me, knowing that I have the power to help someone. Working at North Belt Medical Clinic as a Medical Assistant intern is one of the greatest life experience. I will not trade it in for any other work field. Becoming an assistant also supplies knowledge of the most intimate interactions of the natural processes, giving a glimpse of processes that are not easy to understand. At this Center the patients are Diabetes related. As I spend more time as an intern at this Clinic I was inspired by Dr. Willie Harrison who helped and gave hope to many of these people, had myself raise some questions on the concepts and wonder what it would be like to be a part of the North Belt Medical team or somewhat relate to this field. I believe that Medical Assistant program classes at Fortis Institute help gave me an opportunity to pursue my passion for helping those with medical problems and let me feel at ease on the first hand training at the North Belt Medical Clinic. At the North Belt Medical Clinic I learn to Answering phones and making appointments ordering supplies, greeting patients, pulling and filing patient charts, calling in or faxing prescriptions, converting charts to electronic charting. Hopefully I can take these skills I learn and better myself in life.…

    1. How would you describe your role in your current position and your educational preparation for this role? “Being a Masters trained nurse allows me to obtain advanced level positions within the field of study I love. I have leadership and educational nursing experience gained through the MSN program coupled with my personal nursing experience within hospice. It is my job to hire nurses and ensure they are properly trained and set for success within our company. I also have the skills and knowledge needed to assess potential patients and determine whether they meet criteria. Once we’ve admitted the patient, I am responsible for placing that patient on a team that I fell best fits that patients individual needs.” 2. How would you explain the unique contributions you as a nurse bring to an interdisciplinary team?“I believe we all have something special to bring to the team, but if I were to focus on my skills and attributes, I would say I have the training and knowledge needed to assess and treat the clients we serve. Being the clinical director for this office allows me the ability to hire and supervise nursing staff that I feel have the skills needed to ensure our patients and families are cared for in the best possible manner.”…
