May 5th, 1774
I’m seeing the same thing every day. Them not wanting to go to war. Why would any one man want this? I see the world being able to become a better place if we did go to war. I blame England for this horrendous and tragic time in our country. I will speak freely about my beliefs, I do have that right. Maybe, just maybe these gentlemen here will have a sense of mind and agree upon my ideas. We are the future to our country, and we need to break away from England, the war is the right way to go. We need our independence and freedom!
May 15th, 1774
Looking back on our past, we see that this country is full of wars. We need to change that. Time after time, petitions have been spurned, military actions continue, and violence has been done. Nothing has changed has changed for the better. The members need to listen and raise a militia to fight against the British, not let us become enslaved by them. There will be freedom or there will be slavery.
May 18th, 1774
Britain has brought their own troops to the colonies, and that war is inevitable. The colonies have already tried everything they could to make nice, but nothing has been working, so therefore action is needed. We have pledged ourselves never to abandon until the glorious object of our contest shall be obtained, we must fight!
May 20th, 1774
The positive reception of the colonists' petition will fool the colonists into thinking the British care for them, when truly, they will betray the colonists, leading them back into slavery. Britain uses a hostile attitude towards the colonies, and showing the preparations being made for the outburst of a war. We need to start preparing for war, if not they will suffocate and kill us.
May 23rd, 1774
Many other members of the convention want to remain humble and respectful towards Britain and negotiate a treaty. I do not want this, I want to prepare for war and win the freedom and indecency that we deserve. Maybe by using questions and not giving them an answer

    Patrick Henry gave a speech in 1775 to the Virginia Convention that convinced them to take action and fight back against Great Britain for their freedom because their methods of hope and petition failed to work.     These opinions expressed so far would be very unpopular. Arguing against war with Britain, and war in general would not be looked upon kindly.     A British council of generals believed a show of force was the correct strategy in which to bring about the colonists’ allegiance back to Britain. The pitfall here was the British commanders knew themselves and what worked against other insurrections against the crown.     Before April 1st, 1774, the significant events in the relationship between Britain and her property was the Writs of Assistance (1760), Sugar Act (1764), Stamp Act (1765), Quartering Act (1766), Townshend Act (1767), and the Tea Act (1773). Most of these events were met with written, non violent, complaints such as Patrick Henry’s letter of protest, the statement of “No Taxation without Representation”, John Dickinson’s “Letters from a Farmer in Pennsylvania”, Samuel Adams goal of a Committee of Correspondence, or the Boston Tea Party (where no one was injured or killed). However, after the Coercive Acts, events like the First Continental Congress were far different than the events before the “Intolerable Acts. For example, the First Continental Congress on September 5th, 1774 in Philadelphia led to defensive measures being taken, and the colonies were officially going under “passive rebellion”. In addition, fighting began at Lexington and Concord shortly after the Coercive Acts as many British and Minutemen (local colonial militia) were killed. Lastly, the Declaration of Independence set the foundation for the freedom of our nation.
