Similarities The similarities in these articles are to use critical thinking skills when analyzing an assumption, and many good tips and strategies are given on how to accomplish this. In both articles strategies such as not closing your mind to a claim that is made by a person is suggested. Analyzing the claim that has been made is important. Asking yourself and the other person questions about their claim is a good strategy to take. This will help you determine if you understood them correctly, and it will help you determine
if their assumptions are correct by evaluating them.
Differences
The difference in these articles is that the article by Haskins is a more in depth article than the one by Elder and Paul. The Article by Elder and Paul has four main points. Within those four point strategies are given to help a person think critically. In the article written by Haskins, there is five main points. In addition, there is four detail graphs of faulty critical thinking with examples. Furthermore, within each cell block there is tips on how to overcome faulty ways of thinking.
In conclusion, both articles are very valuable to help people have an open mind about assumptions that are stated by others. Furthermore, they both are very helpful in showing a person many strategies to evaluate and train one’s ways thinking.
