Herman English Class
I have always been a hard working student. I do all my work and study for all my tests and quizzes, but one of the reasons I know to do this is from my freshman year in high school. It taught me that sometimes you have to work harder than what you believe may be needed and that school is not all about the grades that you get but about the personal growth that you earned in order to achieve this growth. Before my freshman year, I never had to study. I could understand subjects easily enough that it would stick with me. After my freshman English class, however, I would never view school in that way again. This class taught me to think in ways that I did not before. I went from having a mind that was closed off and relatively limited to being …show more content…
After this class, however, I learned that the most important thing is about the progress you make and your ability to see all spectrums of a situation. After retraining my mind, I have been able to think of multiple solutions for a problem when before, I might have only thought of one or two. This closed me off from the world, limiting me from multiple other beliefs, social experiences, and options. In my junior year of high school, we listened to an adult speaker explain to us his views on the human mind. He explained that people’s instincts are to judge quickly and more often than not tend to not look beyond than what something may appear to be. By adjusting my mindset because of my English class, I have been able to avoid this and think of multiple solutions rather than a single one.
This setback showed me that I also needed to readjust my ways of preparation. I have encountered a very important life lesson that I will be able to use all my life. This lesson is that not everything is going to be as easy as one might think it will be. It is important to try to prepare yourself in the best ways and not underestimate how difficult something may

Therefore, human must focus on rising beyond limitations, so that the learning experiences can expand within a thought process. Everyday a human must condition their thinking process in adaptable ways of the environment in which they live, whether the situation is a positive or negative experience. For example, at the beginning of the year, while attending Liberty University I was fortunate enough to become acquainted with another student on a personal level. However, as the two of us were in conversation, I happen to mention a phrase about the Bible. I was surprised to learn that the student does not believe in God, without any known reason. I soon began to wonder how I can help with this understanding, while by the same token I fully respect…

But if we are patient and aren’t too quick to judge, trust ourselves, and accept reality while letting go of our mistakes, then we can set ourselves free from our own prison room. Our brain is constructively supported by nerve cells that avoid reproduction in order to prevent connectivity disruption. Even though our brain stores the things we were previously exposed to in order for us make meaning in life, neuroplasticity also allows our brain to grow intellectually and help us learn so that we can make new meanings. Because of this, Einstein suggests that we expand our mind and think outside of what we already know. We have our own perceptions on things, but there is more than one perspective to something. Kabot-Zinn established his seven attitudes in hope that we can practice being mindful and see and understand the wholeness and connectedness of all parts of nature and…

American success has always been built on this idea that hard work itself is a good thing and will be for many more centuries. We as young Americans see hard work as a sign of good character and we admire these people who work hard for success. Those successful people are our inspiration and role model in this society of hard work. Because of the “Puritan” work ethic in us, students are challenging themselves and trying with the best of their ability to overcome their laziness and complete their assignments within their time limit to be as successful as the people they admire.…

The way I go about certain things have changed. The way I studied has improved majorly in college. In high school, I rarely studied. I would study for the final exam or a midterm, but I realized that would not slide at Spelman. When I first started studying in college, I was focused on how long I studied and not the content of what I was studying. Having the deeper meaning in the work and the context of what I am studying is key. Along the lines of studying comes with changing my procrastination. Procrastination is still an obstacle that I have to overcome, but I am working on changing…

I always strived to do the best that I can, in everything that I do, and this especially applies to academics. In 6th grade, I joined the honors program at my middle school; from then on forward, I made sure than my work was of high enough quality so that the following year I would be placed in honors courses. These courses are what I believe prepared me for my success in high school. I got a taste of what it was like to be in an environment where every pupil was hungry for an education and for knowledge, and I grew to want to learn as much as my classmates. I entered high school with courses that upperclassmen had that challenged me more than anything else had before. It was during my freshman year of high school that I realized that I couldn’t…

Before tenth grade, school had come easily to me. I could excel in my classes without having to work hard or often even study outside of class. This changes when I began taking AP Biology with a group of seniors. Having no biology base prior to this class, I was stretched. I had to learn how to study and discover how I learned best. Through much struggle I was able to grow as a student and as a human being. I learned what working hard in school meant and began to see that having good grades and high personal merit was of great personal value to me. That is not to say that this class was without its struggles. There were many moments were I learned something new, sometimes the hard way, but growth was always present. The skills that I cultivated through this course…

Education has always been one of the most important things to me, and I am dedicated to learn as much as humanly possible. I have always thought that I did not need to study. I thought that I could just wing it, although it worked for me most of the time in high school I quickly realized that wasn't the case in college. Taking concurrent classes has showed me that you can't go through school with a fixed mindset. If I wanted to succeed, then I had to have a growth mindset.
