I am committed to making the world a better place. Although there are not a lot of opportunities to do that where I am, I have done what I can. I am a part of NHS and actively volunteer through there. I also am involved with a youth group and have participated on mission trips where we go and help those in need in other communities. My goal in life is to help others however I can.
My favorite subject is probably English. I enjoy reading and writing essays. I love having that type of connection with people and learning how to speak …show more content…
in an intelligent way. I am not quite sure why the subject interests me so much. I have just always enjoyed the concept of English and reading as much as I can. I think my love for reading is what sparked my interest in the subject of English itself. I learned I could write my own books, essays, articles, etc. and so began to do so.
I am very passionate about being a part of speech contests.
One of my goals for this year going into contest is to make it into and perform at all-state speech, mainly for individual musical theatre. In order to accomplish this, I have picked out a difficult aria to perform. It challenges my voice to do things it has not had to do often while challenging my acting as well, as it is comedic rather than dramatic. It is stretching my skills to, hopefully, an impressive level that will be good enough to wish to see me perform in the highest honor you can receive as a part of speech.
I have selected these universities based on location and the majors offered. My goal is to live in New York City, so my main university choices are located there, though I have also decided to apply to one close to home for familiarity and as a back-up. The second factor that affected my decision was my proposed major. Since I want to go into music performance to hopefully one day sing opera, as well is major in psychology so I can help those with eating disorders if I end up not being successful in opera, I want to attend a university that has these
majors.
My grades have remained relatively high throughout my years of high school, but there are a couple of minor drops, mainly in my freshman year. During this time, I was struggling with depression and anorexia, hence making my concentration in class and on my academics lower. Luckily, I have overcome my anorexia and am better coping with my depression, but I could not accomplish this as well during my freshman year. Between my extremely low-calorie diet and my numerous suicide attempts, my focus was not on academics at that time. That has changed now, and I am thankful for it and am glad to see that it did not affect my grades all that much.
