By the same token, I like to participate in the community and work together with others.
Since middle school, I have been involved in numerous local beach and river cleanup events. In Nature Academy I was able to design my own community service project. During 7th grade, I banded together with a few fellow classmates and we decided to clean up the streets of Felton one staple at a time. The state of the poles there were horrible; covered in the metal pieces from prior flyers posted there. After several weeks and hours, we had defeated the evil staples. In 8th grade, I had done some more community service on a smaller scale. By helping out in the community garden at school, I had helped the crops grow, that were then disbursed to families in need of fresh
vegetables. Not only do I show service, but also provide character. I have always been a serious child; in fact, my mom can vouch for me. Half a dozen years back, I was playing on the monkey bars. This was when I still was not able to articulate complete and sensible sentences. My mom was chatting with another parent, not entirely paying attention to what I was doing. I was having a blast. Lunging from metal bar to bar, I disregarded the height at which I was playing at. My clammy hands began to slip; “Andrea!” I yelled at the top of my lungs. Yes, I called my mother by her actual name. I do not know how I knew to do this, but by doing so my mom was able to quickly react. Unfortunately, my face was a bit scraped up by the wood chips but we went out for ice cream afterwards. By this short anecdote, you can clearly tell that I exemplified maturity and courtesy as a child. Sure, there are other examples but this one really stuck.
Finally, my academic achievements both in and out of school are strongly driven by my insatiable thirst for excellence. Receiving a 4.17 grade point average my freshman year is proof of that. Pursuing extracurricular activities such as diving, theatre, animation, and learning German poses exciting challenges and growth opportunities for me. In fact, I actually taught myself to use three-dimensional software to create short videos of characters and landscapes. I have gained a following of 2,000 subscribers on my YouTube channel since 2012.
All things considered, I would be a great addition to the National Honors Society not only because I demonstrate high standards in character and academic achievements, but also in leadership and service. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share who I am, and taking the time to consider my application.
