Delta Sigma Theta Scholarship
Why should I be considered for a Delta Sigma Theta Scholarship? Delta Sigma Theta Incorporated is an organization that holds ethical values such as the supreme importance of the pursuit of truth, a devotion to excellence, and the commitment to social responsibility. Through these teachings and principles, honor and duty is built within the community. The finding of these standards within the Corporation of Delta Sigma Theta are the same criteria that were seen to be critical in my days of youth. My foundation of life was built on trust and honesty and to always find comfort in giving back to those who are in need. By being the brother of a Soror within the Alpha Phi Alpha Sorority Inc., I was able to be a witness to different events …show more content…
I am a church member and musician at Revival Tabernacle. By being a musician, I find myself working with the talents and ideas of others as we come together on one accord and produce a skilled sound. I am also currently a student at Jones County High School. Being a student, I am a service to other organizations at school by being an usher for Graduation and also the Chorus Department. My recent involvement in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and DECA has enriched my knowledge of the business sector and how we all come together as a society and produce great ideas. In these organizations, I was able to be a holiday helper at local Nursing Homes to bring cheer to the residents. From my participation in these organizations and activities, I learned that it is better to give than receive. I was able to gain experience with dealing with the public and also give people a sense of comfort and love. I also take value in personal presentation. The actions of a person speak volumes and also impacts the perception of others. From this concept, I make decisions showing dignity and respect and honor. My goal is to influence others knowing we are all held accountable for our works. In particular, self-discipline has provided me a higher standard of conduct. I have found this to be successful due to a recent placement of being a Senior Ambassador at Jones County High School. I use my position in being an influential leader within my

Throughout these organizations I am either serving as a mentor or using my media skills. For example, with Chapel Assistants I have the opportunity to help prepare for each chapel service but I also serve in the Media Ministry which is responsible for making CD’s for each service, mailing CDs to attendees, and being sure the speaker gets a copy of their sermon. I love the job because I truly get to build relationships with those that attend chapel. Within the Spotlight Network I am currently a reporter in which I report events that are going on campus. This year the Spotlight Network will have its own shows and I will serve as a reporter of the shows. With Howard Players I get work on my acting skills by attending workshops. Alternative Spring Break, was my chance to be able to spend an entire week Mentoring students at Normandy High School which is located in Ferguson Missouri. To this day I continue to mentor those students I met through email. In the Freshman Leadership Academy my freshman year all year I was taught to be a leader and even had the opportunity to travel to China and provide service. Because I am a sophomore I get to use the things I learn to help mentor a current freshman. Lastly, Matriculate is a recent organization that is affiliated with Howard’s campus in which through google hangout I mentor students in low income high school.…

Volunteering for service hours changed my outlook on life. I worked with the Hydrocephalus Association in both eleventh and twelfth grade. The Hydrocephalus Association focuses on three things community, clarity, and cure. Hydrocephalus is a condition defined by an abnormal, excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the cavities of the brain. Some people with this condition can live a normal life being unnoticeable while other have difficulties. The association works on awareness to find a cure, clarity in helping families further understand the condition, and a community which will always be supportive. Service hours can sometimes be a hassle but once I started volunteering with that association it became fun because I was…

As an executive officer in Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, each individual is responsible for a legacy project during the school year. I was responsible for SOS Children’s Village which is a foster care neighborhood that houses children that were abused, neglected and/or abandoned. Even though this was a one-day experience, I was thrilled about the opportunity to work with children as I believe that no child should be denied proper medical care and a healthy home. It is said that time goes by when you are having fun. This was true for our experience as we went four hours over time. I coordinated leadership and team building activities for the children in which both the volunteers and participants enjoyed. Who knew that in five hours’ strong bonds can be developed with a stranger that you might not encounter again.…
