Peaceful Resistance Examples

I believe that peaceful resistance to laws does impact a free society in positive ways. Nonviolent resistance, or peaceful resistance, is the practice of achieving goals such as a social change by symbolic protests, civil disobedience, economic non cooperation, political noncooperation, or other methods in the absence of violence. Through peaceful resistance you can do walks, marches, and protests but also remain peaceful and loyal to the country, state, or government. As Martin Luther King Jr. led a great example during the civil rights movement sixty years ago both he and his followers engaged in peaceful protests and marches which both happen to be examples of peaceful resistance to laws. Although Martin Luther King Jr. died during this affair, the protesters and strikers remained peaceful and followed King’s legacy to win their rightful work dues. As in this example, it goes to show that anything can happen by using peaceful resistance tactics. At the beginning of the Memphis case, the government didn’t believe at all that they’d change their minds about the wage and benefits that the workers deserved; however, after the strikes, protests, resistance, and Martin Luther King Jr.’s death, they did in fact change their minds, eventually leading to a stronger and closer community. Other examples are the marches for life that occur in Washington D.C. that started in 1974 and have continued on every year to impact the choices of women and the government. When people go by, see, or hear of this rally, they tend to look up what the march for life symbolizes. By doing so, they are able to educate both themselves and others about abortion and the rights that this group believes in.
