being arrested was also a peaceful protest, which took Alabama’s discriminatory laws all the way to the Supreme Court. This act of boycotting the buses was lead by another activist, Martin Luther King Jr. Parks is now remembered as one of the leading civil rights activists for her positive impact she made within the black community. Like Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr, showed peaceful resistance by speaking out about injustice and being the leader of boycotts to fight against discrimination.
He also made a positive impact even though some would disagree. Muhammad Ali refused to comply with the military draft, but didn’t dodge it like some people think. He verbally opposed it willing to accept the legal consequences that would possibly follow. He didn’t flee to Canada or enroll into college to avoid the draft. Ali said, “Why should me and other so-called ‘negroes’ go 10,000 miles away from home, here in America, to drop bombs and bullets on other innocent brown people who’s never bothered us and I will say directly: No, I will not go.” This in my opinion was peaceful resistance because again he was speaking out on what he believes in, knowing the consequences that would likely be coming his way. An act I would agree would be negative to the society related to draft dodging would be ripping up the draft cards to avoid going being picked to go to war. This to me would be more likely to be negative and cause tension rather than Muhammad Ali disagreeing with the draft. An example of negative resistance I would say would be some Americans nervous to be around Muslim people. Due to terrorist attacks that have happened in the
past. Being hesitant to trust some one because of a few radical people is ridiculous. Leaving Americans to be fearful of someone because of their religion or skin color, is also ridiculous and something I would see as very negative in society today. Its even worse that our future president is saying things about these Middle Easterners making them the fearful ones. Having people scared of others in 2017 due to some radical people in that religion will result in discrimination coming back. Although some acts of resistance have been peaceful, there are also acts that I would believe to be negative toward our society.
