to succeed. The Dakota Pipeline was a worrying factor and could possibly cause damage to the water supply of many American citizens who resided near the pipeline.
It also was planned to be built directly through sacred grounds of several Native American tribes. All of these people gathered together in peaceful resistance to the pipeline and its legislation for quite some time. They protested and committed their lives to a cause that was important to their values and beliefs and did not stand down. This resistance helped them achieve their goal when the Dakota Pipeline was stopped for the time being. However, with new powers in the executive branch of government, we may see a change in that legislation soon and even more resistance to influence a positive change in our society may rise up in response. Speaking of which, America's new President has brought about immense amounts of resistance throughout the country shown in Women's marches and other forms of protests. The American public has once again taken this opportunity to speak their mind and defend any rights that they have in danger. An oppression of a minority or group of people could seriously impact our society which is based on the idea of being "free". These citizens plan to protect their rights at all costs, thus leaving a positive impact and a new hope for the uncertain future ahead of
them And finally, even more recent legislation has revealed that our President has allowed for a Muslim ban to occur in which those who practice the Islamic faith from certain countries are not allowed to enter our country for a certain amount of time. Americans have once again stood up against such legislation as everyone is aware that we are a country of immigrants. Resistance has once again occurred and the hate toward these people has turned from hate and fear to love and acceptance. Peaceful resistance definitely positively impacts our free society because it allows Americans to stand up for what is right. Resistance is what brought the United States to become its own independent nation back in 1776 as the colonists thought that the British taxation was expensive and infringing on their rights. This resistance brought about the American War for Independence and made us the land of the free and home of the brave.
