Pep Band Speech
The smell of popcorn and sound of music waft and reverberate through the stands as the crowd cheers and roars at the players below, exclaiming ooh’s and ahh’s with each point made by their home team. The music grows and the fans sing along, joyous of the touchdown made; the final winning point. Of course, the players are praised, and lifted high with the viewer’s gratitude, but the music has softened now and slowly forgotten. The praise doesn’t reach those players ears, and they pack up their own weapons of sport and leave quietly. They had worked hard, and played their music with great enthusiasm but when the time comes for them to ask for help, they will be drowned out by the sport player’s fame and grandeur. The Pep band, its own team in its own sport, will not be appreciated, and left in the background once more. Even so, …show more content…
They boost their morale, using just as much energy to entertain the crowd and energize the atmosphere, but the school does not treat our band with as much gratitude as it should. We constantly find ourselves in need of instruments for new players, equipment for our room, and funding for projects to better ourselves, but we are always last in line for our school’s help. There is no reason for this, for the Pep band is just as important as the Football Team or Cheerleaders. We should not have to beg or grovel for the things that we need to support or sports teams, and we should be taken into consideration with total sincerity because without our Pep Band, who is to keep out teams going? We provide life to the games as well as entertainment, but this will begin to dwindle if the school continues to forget us and fail to supply what we require to remain the band that we are. We are important, and like any other group in this school, we deserve to be loved as much as anyone

Good evening everyone, I hope everyone is enjoying their night. My name is Keyona and I was the one of the 4 captains chosen for the 2011 Montclair High School Cheerleading Squad. During my 3 years on the squad, I’ve had so many memories, good and bad, that helped me grow as a person. Cheerleading throughout my high school career took part in shaping me as the person I am today. I’d like to congratulate this year’s squad for making it through the season successfully as a new team. There were a lot of ups and downs, but I think we handled each situation well. As the season progressed, I’ve formed bonds with many of the girls on the team that will last me way beyond my high school experience. Some of the girls I think more of sisters than team mates. You guys made my experience more than enjoyable by joking, laughing, and having fun every time I stepped through gym doors. Even if my day was horrible, SOMEONE made me laugh or smile and my frown was quickly turned upside down. I’d like to thank Ms. Rob and Ms. HB for giving me the opportunity to be captain this year. They taught me to have a tough skin and to keep my head up in any situation I face in life. If I had the choice to pick different coaches for the squad, I wouldn’t because nobody could take their place in my eyes. Most importantly, I’d like to thank my mother Lisa White for motivating me and being there whenever I needed her. Even though she punished me every Saturday after each home game with washing loads of dishes from when she made cookies the night before, it was worth it. Overall, the season was unforgettable and I wouldn’t give my spot up as captain for the world. Thank you guys and enjoy the rest of your time here at the…

As somebody who always had trouble fitting in in school, it was really hard to find a place of which I could be a part of. I joined band in middle school, and I enjoyed playing greatly, even if I wasn’t the most talented saxophone player in the program. I am student that is involved in the arts and sciences more than sports. I never played a team sport in high school, but I feel that marching band and musical alike have allowed to learn and later demonstrate the mentality of both a leader and team player. To be apart of both of these group at a younger age was an experience that I would not trade for the world. As a senior member of both activities now, I have stepped up as a…

The Permian Panthers was no ordinary high school football team. Its win-loss record was unrivalled in the state, and the team had won five state championships. The ultimate honor for every boy in town was to play football for the Panthers. For every girl it was to become a Pepette, a cheerleader who baked cookies for the players during off days and dazzled the crowd to the tune of the school fight song on game days. In Odessa, everybody defined themselves in terms of the school football team and lived vicariously through it. So obsessed were the townspeople that they hardly raised an eyebrow when the football team chartered planes for away games at $20,000 a ride while the teachers scrounged around for money to buy textbooks and teaching materials.…

With a wide spread of my arms and a clench of my fist, the last notes of Panic! at the Disco's song, "Victorious" came to an end. As I called the band to attention and to march off the football field, I knew the marching season for the Mead High School Marching Band was coming to an end after another year. I remember feeling jittery and excited despite the fact that I was composed before our eight minute marching show began. I hopped off of my podium, used my shaky hands to disassemble the platform, and exited the field to catch up with the band. Our performance at the St Vrain School District Band Night marked the end to my high school marching band career that started just four years prior.…

The building for our band stands beside the football field, the spectacle of the campus. The expansive field eclipses the tiny block home of music, yet the band room shines just as brightly for those who understand its value. The brick exterior wears a coat of dingy white paint with the words “CCHS Marching Band” painted in school colors. Behind the flat building lies a field with small lines and, often, soccer…

Bands are intensely competitive against other bands. This was true when the marching band had competitions and when the concert band played against other high schools. Bands hate other bands -- and that’s not enough. Sections hate other sections. Trombones hate trumpets and aren’t fond of tubas or French horns either. Flutes hate clarinets. Saxophones hate flutes. Tubas hate flutes and trumpets. Everyone hates the baritones. Everyone loves the drummers though.…
