“A rose for Emily” is a short story about the last member of her family, and her very old father. The story was published in 1930, by a very well respected author, William Faulkner. When Emily’s father dies, she is completely heartbroken and denies that he is really dead.…
1. Chapter 1 Psychologist- Definition: A professional with an academic degree and specialized training in one or more areas of psychology. For example, I saw a psychologist after a traumatic event when I was in 2nd grade . My family went to Santa 's Village (a Christmas theme park/carnival), as we had done every year with my whole family. My dad, my sister, and I went on the ferris wheel together, and half way during the ride it began to break. Parts started falling off, and it began to spin really fast forward, stop, and then spin really fast backward. I remember looking at my mom, who was standing on the ground with a look of horror, and mouthing that I loved her. A cable ended up…
I like how I would be able to either study the brain or help patients who are dealing with mental health issues. I would also be able to run my own studies on the brain and I would love to be able to do that. Somethings that I could see myself disliking about this career and major choice would be having to talk with people who are going through hard times. It would be hard not to let myself get upset with patients, or even get extremely upset when I am not able to help someone. Another thing that I would not find ideal is that the income for a psychologist is around 60,000. This is a great income, but it is not so great when I would have to attend graduate school to become a psychologist. There would be a lot of schooling involved for not a lot of monetary…

-Tristin get right to the point in this source. She examines the uses of a college degree and gives insight in whether it is worth it in this day and age. She feels that now more then ever high school students are made to feel that they wont succeed unless they attend college. She uses research to show that college grads, if employed, usually make $20,000 more then someone with only a high school diploma. She believes that only people who are motivated to earn a degree should apply to college. This source goes with the theme of my paper and will help me conduct my argument on who should be going to college.…
In module 1A, I learned about the history of psychology, psychological perspectives, careers in psychology, and ethics. At the start of the idea of psychology Wilhelm Wundt became the “father of psychology”. Different approaches and perspectives became as a variety of people began to study psychology, such as Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytical perspective, Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow’s psychological perspective, and so on. I also learned about the diverse careers in the psychology field. There are clinical and counseling psychologists which diagnose and treat people with things such as depression, and there are sports psychologists to help athletes keep their heads in the game. In the last…

An interesting article I encountered in regards to my career goals was one written by, John Wiley, named, “Forensic Psychologists: Roles and Activities”. Forensic psychologists have a role in a variety of agencies and institutions. In legal situations psychologists are used to assess inmates that suffer from different types of disorders, which could lead to hurting themselves or others. They play a role as an evaluator as they monitor the mental state of a person on trial that claims to have a mental disorder. Evaluation of individuals that are on trial claim to have a mental disorder but this is where some of their main contributions are made. The “insanity” plea is the most common that one will face in this profession, however, if an individual is found incompetent to for trial by due to insanity, psychologists refer them back to the proper institution for proper therapy and treatments. The individual then is to stay in that facility until they are fit for their trail.…
For my job shadow I attend Geisinger Hospital. During my job shadow I got to experience and witness some very interesting and amazing things. When we first got there we started at life flight and we got to hear from a life flight nurse and a life flight doctor. They then allowed us to look through the helicopters and ask any questions about anything we saw. I talked to the doctor for awhile about pediatric flights and how they transport littler kids. They then allowed us to go into the newest helicopter outside. After touring the helicopters we went into this older building where they use to have a nursing school, but now its just for presentations. We walked in to meet a lady named, Rebecca Winters BSN,RN,CNOR, Clinical Nurse Educator for the operating room. She told us about OR…

Another problem that is related to precarious work and poorer health is the lack of appropriate income for the working class. An individual working in a precarious workplace often work long hours with low-income, they often face more health problems compare to people in non-precarious work. The level of income a person makes can more likely determine an individual’s health. Generally and individual in the top 1% are healthier and have better opportunities than the bottom 99%. “ Level of income shapes overall living conditions, affects psychological functioning, and influences health-related behaviours such as quality of diet, extent of physical activity, tobacco use, and excessive alcohol use” (Mikkonen & Raphael, 2010). Income level determines…
