Job Shadow Essay
For my job shadow I attend Geisinger Hospital. During my job shadow I got to experience and witness some very interesting and amazing things. When we first got there we started at life flight and we got to hear from a life flight nurse and a life flight doctor. They then allowed us to look through the helicopters and ask any questions about anything we saw. I talked to the doctor for awhile about pediatric flights and how they transport littler kids. They then allowed us to go into the newest helicopter outside. After touring the helicopters we went into this older building where they use to have a nursing school, but now its just for presentations. We walked in to meet a lady named, Rebecca Winters BSN,RN,CNOR, Clinical Nurse Educator for the operating room. She told us about OR …show more content…
Then we headed back upstairs to watch a video on patients perspective of a nurse and realized nursing isn't just giving a patient medicines or cleaning out a wound its about being there for them when you need them the most morally and physically. Also, helping out the patients family to be as comfortable as possible. We then had the opportunity to talk to a nurse and ask her questions about her job and how she feels about working as a nurse. She got into detail about schooling involved in how you can get a two year associative degree but most hospitals are requiring now a four year bachelors degree. We then ended off by hearing from two ladies from the Geisinger pharmacy. They talked a lot about the new technology they are using within the hospital to make the medicines go out a lot faster. It was really interesting to learn a lot about robots that go around the hospitals to the different floors. Overall my experience there was pretty awesome, I very much enjoyed their presentation and I think they did a great job for what they were allowed to

As I grew up, she also brought me to work with her and I befriended the majority of her coworkers and I specifically remember one named Donna. She and I used to talk and go room to room to see her patients. There I learned what to do and how to talk to patients as well as how to help them recover. I’d ask them questions about their current state of health even though I knew nothing about the human body. I always loved observing all of the nurses and their day-to-day work. Examining the interactions between nurses and patients, or even nurses themselves, had piqued my curiosity because I was astounded by how close the relationships were. This has since developed into a passion leading to a career goal.…

Definitely, my most memorable shadowing experience. Although the 12-hour shift was at night, the ongoings on the Trauma Center keeps everyone on their toes. Nurses, radiologists, surgeons, even policemen all worked together on various cases. The most severe of the night was of a young man whose femur broke in half after being knocked by a vehicle while running away with a stolen bike. Having being present while the orthopedist straightened his leg with only local anesthesia was definitely an impressive moment. My first gunshot wound was seen and I observed a surgery where a large pus-filled abscess had to be cleaned from a diabetic patient. The dreaded fear of burnt flesh was…

I felt as though I knew every face that walked through the hospital doors. I watched as nurses provided passionate care to their patients. However, it wasn’t until members of my own family fell ill that I knew the career path that was meant for me. When my grandfather lay miserable in the hospital bed, I could not help but be touch by the compassionate staff that helped nurse him back to health time and time again. I came to the cessation that I would aid people the same way I feel my father had during his service in the Air Force, but I would do it from a…

In order to survive humans have to grow crops, gather food, and build shelters and fire. In our economy we work to support ourselves, and in order to work we have to have jobs. So what happens when they start taking jobs away? In America, unemployment rates have gone up in the past decade. Businesses are growing and new stores are opening, which should mean more jobs. However, America’s employment rate in 2007 was only 38 percent. Shadow work is the reason employers do not have to hire as many people as they did in the past (862).…

The first thing I did was research nursing degrees and schools. I also read a few articles and testimonies from nurses about their jobs, experiences, and education. I wanted to learn as much about the nursing occupation as possible so I would sound well educated and ask the right questions. After a lot of research I made a list of questions that I thought would help me gather the information I needed. After listing all the questions I could think of I narrowed my list down to about eight questions that were all open ended questions. I wanted to make sure that I asked enough of the right questions to get the information I was shooting for, but also didn't want to go over the thirty minute session that we had scheduled. After a few days of preparation I was ready for the big day.…

The first three weeks in my clinical placement at Facility, I have already gained a lot of practical experience that is different from what I am familiar with. During our orientation at the facility, we met the nurse manager of the third floor who is courteous enough to share a little bit of information about working in the facility and how the system works in the long- term care facility. The nurse manager even told us, that she is also an international educated nurse. Knowing this has inspired me to become successful in my chosen career.…

At first I was very nervous to apply as a volunteer and had doubts about being hired. After a long process of applications, interviews, and trainings, I was assigned to work at 6-CD on Geriatric floor. While I was volunteering there I met with different people, nurses, doctors, and pharmacy technicians. Seeing the pace of work they work in made me realize how important it is to work in healthcare. For me, the most significant issue was to get the used to patients who have passed away. I have seen a situation where a nurse and a doctor telling a family member that their father has passed away.
