Stephen Chbosky’s book the perks of being a wallflower offers a unique perspective on life and can relate to many teenagers growing up. Three major points in the novel are Charlie’s character and how he finds himself, the theme of growing up and the denouement. Concluding statement:
Charlie is the protagonist and narrator of the novel. Throughout the book, many things happen to him that makes him ponder about the way life is. Charlie is a wallflower, he sees things, and he understands and keeps quiet about them. Charlie’s character is sort of a mystery; he gets angry, sees things and will pass out if he thinks too much. Charlie is very honest and thoughtful which would sometimes lead him to trouble. He is socially awkward and has a hard time expressing how he feels. Charlie’s favourite aunt tragic death on his eighth birthday affected him very much and his only friend Michael committed suicide which may be a reason for why he is the way he is. Charlie is very naïve for his age, for being fifteen years old he has such an innocent and pure outlook on life. The way he writes suggests that he thinks differently than most teenagers his age. He writes about random details of his day and always tries to find a purpose for life or the way people act The theme in the novel deals with the aspect of growing up.
