Personal Addictions Journal
Week 1 I decided to try to quit drinking Mountain Dew for my personal addiction project. This turned out to be a lot easier to say than it was to actually do. I drink Mountain Dew all the time; I drink it because it tastes good and because it has a high caffeine content. The high caffeine content helps me to get through the day when I have to get up early for work and then stay up late either doing homework or going to class. Therefore, giving up Mountain Dew is going to be a much more difficult challenge than I had expected. The first couple of days into my journey I did a pretty good job of giving up Mountain Dew. I found myself wanting to reach for a bottle of Mountain Dew several times but I was able to resist. Even though I was able to abstain from drinking any Mountain Dew, it was very hard and I believe I may have been a little irritable at times because I wasn’t getting as much caffeine as I was used to. Wednesday, the third day of the project, was a very hard day for me. I had to go to work at 4:00 A.M. and then I had homework to do that night. By 10:00 P.M. I was feeling exhausted but I was only half-way through my homework. Needless to say, after struggling to stay focused for about an hour I “relapsed” and drank some Mountain Dew to help me get through the remainder of my assignments. Aside from my initial relapse, the rest of the week went fairly smooth. I feel like I am getting used to having less caffeine on a daily basis and I am drinking more water; therefore, I am being healthier. I did relapse one more time this week, but I only had one drink of my wife’s Mountain Dew and then decided not to drink any more.
Week 2
Monday- I didn’t drink any Mountain Dew today; in fact, I didn’t even think about drinking it. I have been drinking a lot more water and I feel pretty good.
Tuesday- Today was tough for me. We very extremely busy
