Library Orientation Workshop Paper/Reflection I had been only been to the library once before the tour and I didn’t really pay attention to it. When we went on the tour I was so impressed by how nice and big it was. I like that they provide so many computers for the students. There are computers upstairs and downstairs. The library is always pretty quiet in there so it is a good place to do research or study. I like that they have comfortable couches and chairs in there because students can kick back and chill there. I now know that the front desk can help with any questions you many have, whether it is what book you are looking for or anything else. Once we went upstairs I noticed that they had very big study rooms for groups. I thought this was very cool because if you need to do a group project, you can just go in there and talk and you do not need to be quiet. The rooms even have a whiteboard to write down key ideas and a table for group members to discuss. This would also be good if groups of students are studying for a specific exam.

The trip up there was exciting part of this whole experience because I was in the car with three of my friends and we were jamming to music the whole ride there. We left pretty early so we can go site seeing before we even saw the concept. The university was very beautiful and the campus was big, perhaps too big for my liking. The musical concept was held in an auditorium called…

I experienced this wonderful space for the first time, as my fiancé [Calvin] and I chaperoned my eight year old sister [Amya] and my seven year old cousin [Ta’mari] on a Sunday afternoon. We went this first Sunday for Free First Sundays. It didn't take very long to get tickets and start viewing everything the museum had to offer. We rode the BART from El Cerrito Del Norte (Richmond/Fremont line), got off at Lake Merritt station, and walked one block up the street on Oakland to 10th street which is near Laney College. The museum envisioned as a porous building with multiple casual entrances and exits instead of a grand front portal. Museum and park flowed together as a continuous public space, spanning the equivalent of five city blocks. Easy driving directions (if I had a car), easy parking, very convenient for public transportation and just a gorgeous facility and staff that greatly greet you at either entrance and direct you to either level. The eating area was one of the most creative that I have seen thus far –café chairs hanging from a black board. The restaurant was very welcoming and had a variety of things to choose from (although the food was a bit pricey for my taste).…

Hi, it’s me, Roman. Joining the study group seemed to connect me with the rest of the world! One of the guys in my new study group knew everything there was to know about things happening on and around campus. Within five minutes, he’d given me leads on the best biology tutors, the best time to go to the library, the best instructor to talk to about externships, and even the best place to eat near campus. He was like a walking campus directory!…

Looking back, I wish I had allowed more time to spend their cause an hour and a half just wasn’t enough. They have a vast collection of Impressionist paintings from the well-known artist like Monet and even lesser known artists. There is so much to see here I could have spent the whole day. I went to do a project for art history and loved it. At first it’s hard to find your way around, but the staff was extremely helpful and kind. Strangely enough when I found myself getting “lost” looking for a certain genre of paintings, that’s when I found some of my favorites.…

I would say the overall experience at University of Louisville is great because of the humanities building. I would not want anything else, this building is great as it is. On a daily base, I spent half of my day inside this building. For other students, I would think the same because I see students after class hanging around the building. They could be at the first floor or outside siting by the building. If they dislike this building, they would not be around. Bingham is a special building located in a special spot, I do not think other buildings would do better than Bingham…

    Library Hours: Open 24/7?

Many universities in today’s society have their share of problems, but sometimes the problems affect the students even more. At Shawnee State University (SSU), and other schools as well, the students tend to struggle on many issues. Some students have problems with fighting diversity that schools try to maintain. Others have issues with rising tuition rates and other fees that make college hard to afford. Deciding whether to live on or off campus, which classes to take, or even deciding to get a job or not, but I think one major problem that lies within especially SSU’s policies are the hours of our library. School libraries are made to serve the student, allowing them to work in peace and quiet on homework, projects, research, and other school activities, which should not change during any time of the day. If we ask students if they are able to finish his/her work in the allotted time, one may say, “Sure, of course, the library helps me to complete my work,” which may be great, but what about the students that do not get their work completed before the library closes? What are they to do?…

Moving on to the bathrooms in the building we had a big trouble getting into it because of the space of the door was too narrow for the wheelchair to pass and that the bathroom for the disabled people were locked and out of service, unlike the prayer room it has a wide space for the wheelchair to enter, also the ablution place is suitable for the wheelchair to reach. On our way to the student services, there was a construction site that made it difficult for wheeling the chair and there were lights above the ground which were like bumps which disturbed the movement of the wheelchair. The cafeteria has reachable counters to buy food and drinks , also the tables were at a proper height. There are elevators everywhere, but sometimes it is out of service so we cannot reach the first and second floor. We ended our tour at the…

The museum is a great place to bring children in and see many exhibits that fit their own interest. This were a verity of exhibits, and each one had something for a child to do and enjoy. They show you the dining hall which is conveniently located steps away from your classes so if you are short on time you can still stop in for some coffee and food before your next class. The dining hall is presented as not only a place to eat but somewhere students go to socialize and meet up with friends to just hangout. Since it’s close to everything on campus it has been a meeting place for current students and since there is such a variety of food, which is also shown in the video, it has something for everybody. Another place they show in the video is the library, they talk about the different options for studying available to you. There is silent private study rooms and collaborative rooms for every student to use and you see a short video of what those rooms look like. In the video the student says “whatever your studying style, you will be comfortable” which pushes getting the idea in your head that there is something for everyone at this school so you will be successful…

    1. Do your research. And this doesn’t mean that you have to spend two hours the night before your tour looking up statistics, or even that you have to do the research before you get there. Just understand that a lot of the numbers and things like that can be found online. So don’t waste your time asking the tour guide what the average class size is, ask about your tour guide’s favorite class. Don’t ask what the student-faculty ratio is, ask how many professors your tour guide has a personal relationship with. This is your best chance to get to know the campus through the eyes of a student, so ask questions you can’t get the answers to online.…
