Personal Essay: A Career In Physical Therapy

Hi Barbara! I felt fascinated when I read your biography. I admire that you try to overcome from a fear of things which you want to do in your life. Even when I was a child my parents wanted me to take swimming classes but I didn't join because of fear. Once I went to beach and I saw my own friends enjoying swimming. That day I decided to learn swimming and I overcame the fear. Like you, the one incidence which made me take up physical therapy as a profession was seeing my grandmother go through hip replacement surgery. After the surgery I took care of her during her recovery period. I remember her doing daily exercises guided by the physical therapist and after going through this scheduled daily physical therapy exercises, helped her to walk
again. It was like seeing a start of life all over again. As a child our parents hold our hands and help us to learn walking on our own feet. Here I could see the physical therapist helping my grandmother doing the same thing. I could see the sadness on her face disappear with each passing day as her body began to heal and she started walking independently
