Personal Essay: A Passion For The Game Of Golf
Throughout my life, I have always had a passion for the game of golf. Golf is something that relaxes me and teaches me patience, as well as hard work and determination. Throughout high school, I have been apart of our golf team. Over my 4 years on the team, we have had an extremely talented team. Numerous county championships, as well as two district championships. We had the talent to win a state championship to say the least.
Last year, we successfully made it to the state championship in Pennsylvania. As a team, we were ecstatic. We had a very strong team on our hands. Coming into the state championship, we, including myself, did not have the right mindset in order to win. We were too cocky heading into the match, we had a chip on our shoulders. We had the talent to go out

In the regular season, we steamrolled our competitors and were able to make it back to the state championship a second year in a row. With the determination to win, we trained, practiced, and learn from our mistakes from last year. Teeing off in the 2017 State Championship I was not nervous, but confident in myself and my golf game. With four holes left to play, we had a one stroke lead on the competitors. Unfortunately, our competitors had made a great run to come through ad steal the trophy away from us. We were heartbroken knowing that that was our last high school golf match. We came in second place in the state, just a few strokes behind first place.
Although We did not get the job done on that day, our coach couldn't of asked better from us. With four holes to play we were right there in the thick of it, we could've won were as last year, we had no chance of winning at all. That's what he was most proud of. This experience taught me to believe in myself, and hard work leads to success. Looking back on it, i'll miss the times that I had in high school and the life lessons that it taught

Whenever I meet someone new, there will come a time where they ask me, what sport do I play. I'd say golf. But why do I play this most unusual sport. The three points I'll talk about today are: who is he, why him and what he has done to be the best.…

We had made it clear to each other that he would not go unavenged. We had enough passion to fight the world if we felt absolutely necessary and we went on through what seemed like a war that weekend. Through blood, sweat, and injury, we battled for that title. The championship match came in our grasps and tensions were high for the entire game since we didn't only want to win for us, but for our coach who had recently resigned. After a game full of devastating hits and elaborate set plays, we lost after an undefeated run of 5-0-0, but we fought to the death and left it all out on the field. No regret in our heads would ever go opposite the way we played in that title match because Coach Day had educated us all that no matter how exceptionally skilled at something you believe you are, you will never progress without putting your entire willpower to the task. Without passion, you fight for nothing. Passion is what will drive you through every hill and valley of your life. From that day onward, all I have done has been for a reason and I have strong-armed my way through thick and thin to be successful in my life and I plan to extend this through my entire college career and lifetime. I will at no time give up on what I believe is crucial, similar to being successful in that tournament for my…

What is a small ball, it has lots of hexagons on it’s surface, flies through the air like a bird, and is loved by billions? A golf ball. Golf is a worldwide sport that many people adore. Golf can be played by anyone, that doesn’t mean there going to be a tiger woods the first time they play. Many people when they first play usually hit, what Zac Messer would call, a walker, a.k.a. a shot that only goes 20 feet. For years people have been arguing if golf is infact a sport or not. Golf is definitely a sport because it meets the definition of sport, scientists have already concluded that golf is a sport, and golf is physically demanding. Not only is golf a sport, but it is one of the most liked sports in the world.…

When I first came to Lake Highland I tried out for the girl’s golf team, but I was not experienced or skilled enough to make it on. This was a devastating moment for me, but I realized that I needed to try harder and work harder to make it on the team the next year. I became much more skilled and was able to make the team with ease. What the failure told me was that if I got knocked down then I would have to work hard to get back up. This lesson was very crucial to me my junior year of high school. During the golf season I severely injured my wrist. This injury put me out of the game for six months. I gained arthritis in my wrist, but I remembered what happened to me in seventh grade and worked hard to regain my skills. I made the team the…

We got together and told us that even though we did not place as we would have liked to, we still accomplished so much that year. We ran as a team and had good showings at meets throughout the whole year. He told us that it is silly to say a season is a failure because of one bad race, because we had come so far from the beginning of the season. We grew as a team and had fun doing it, and that is something that we he told us to be proud of because not all high school teams could say that. Coach Ernst always knew the right thing to say to me to cheer me up and get me fired up and pushed me to my best. He also challenged me to think differently and be proud of my accomplishments even though they may not be what I expected them to…

Even though I am considered a skilled and impressive player, the game I love is all about failure. Players that fail seventy percent of the time are considered to be the best in the world. So this is where I developed the skill of mental toughness that I apply in life and baseball. In the summer of 2016, my high school baseball team made it to the state playoffs where the top teams played. College coaches were at the games along with hundreds of other fans. In our semi-final game, we were winning three-to-two…

I knew it was not the end of the world and I had to bounce back. I kept working hard and still working out and attending many practices. I kept wrestling and I got back on the right track and was wrestling and beating many good people. Then during state duals I was wrestling the same state champion that beat me earlier that season, and I demolished him this time I beat him eleven to four. Once I got to regionals I was wrestling good beat my first two opponents and then went won in the semi finals seven to one. I was in the finals I had already qualified for state I was really happy I ended up losing. When I went to the state tournament I started my first match and I lost to a kid I should of beat, but I did not give up I started wrestling through the back side of the bracket and I made it all the way to the consolation semi finals I lost to a guy I could of beat and was wrestling for fifth place. I was wrestling the kid that beat me the first match so I was nervous. I knew I could beat him I ended up beating him seven to four. The moral of this story is you can accomplish anything you want to as long as you work hard and have…

Because Baxter O'Reilly was unable to finish the match, I earned six team points, giving Zumbrota-Mazeppa a three point lead. We ended up winning that dual by around ten points. If my match had gone the way it was headed, we could have lost. We won the section semi-finals, but sadly, our team lost the section finals, and could not advance to state that year. The lesson I learned from this experience was that pushing through something hard can reap great…

My senior year playing soccer we didn't start out good. We were not playing as a team. Everyone wanted to do their own things. This affects me by making me feel like I was the only one who wanted to win a game. I work hard over the summer to get ready for the season. I thought we were going to make it to final again. There was a lot of things we needed to work on as a team. Some of which was crossing the ball, being in shape, and the mental part of the game. Knowing how to cross the ball across the field is a big part of soccer. We needed to work on that so during a game we can switch from one side to another, and make a goal. This affected me by wasting…

Our games where 1 hour long. But we played in the scorching heat. So it felt like it was the games where very long. But on every game I tried my best and always gave it my all even though we might have lost some games. My coach had told me that even though we lost that we can always take something positive about the lost. For example we lost a game 1-0 and he told us that the positive thing about the loss is that we know things that we can work on because we know what our weakness is. Knowing this we can take this looks and use it to our advantage because we now know what our biggest weakness is. From that game on we didn't lose a game on until we made it to the finals. We were the first American team to ever be in the finals. It was a very tough and entertaining game but in the end we lost in a penalties shootout. After the game we were all very sad and frustrated. We then got together and ate lunch and watched the next final. Then we went to the ceremony where we got out second place medal. Then we got too go to France the next day and we went to the beach. The beach was very fun and the food was very good. Once we left France we went got back to Lisbon. On our second to last day in Lisbon we went to the beach for the whole day and we were able to do whatever we wanted. At night we got back to the hotel and the hotel held a special dinner for us. Which ended our stay in…

At the beginning of the first week of sectionals, nobody had the Valparaiso Vikings winning the Sectional Championship. A majority of the people had us losing in the first round due to the pitching matchup. We faced Ohio State bound Jake Post, recently after he had gotten drafted to the MLB by the Pittsburg Pirates. I had already beaten him once, but I had to keep his team scoreless in order to do so. Once again, I was able to get the complete game win under my belt in the first sectional game, while recording a fourteen strikeout performance. Following this game everyone doubted us even more going up against the favorite, fourth overall team in state, Crown Point Bulldogs. We played them on Wednesday, following up from both of our first games on that Monday. We were winning the entire game, up until things began to slip up in the last inning. We had to put in two new pitchers in that inning before my Coach had asked me if I could come into record the last couple of outs. I jokingly said yes, and laughed considering the fact that I had thrown one hundred and twenty-seven pitches just two nights prior. He responded by putting in a third new pitcher, but after he walked the first batter he had faced on just four pitches. Coach Coyle had no other decision on his mind other than to put me in. I got the ball with bases loaded and just one out with the tying run on third base and the winning run in scoring position on second. I struck out the first batter, and then the second batter hit a slow roller that should have ended the game, but it was misplayed continuing the game. I recorded the final out of the inning, and then we went into extra innings. Both teams battled the next full inning, but neither teams scored. In the ninth inning, we finally scored, and with my arm hanging I had to let the adrenaline take over to finish off the game. I finished off the game and recorded my second win in less than forty-eight hours.…

Last year, we were one game short of making it to the state championship. I feel it’s because we didn’t have enough team chemistry and I felt like the boys gave up on each other and didn’t come together to try and overcome all the odds. I just want us to be successful and go out and win a state championship. We have a very talented team and I think we got a pretty good chance on winning this team if we all come together as a family and always being there for one another.…
