Personal Essay: If I Become A Villanova
Being an active member of a community is critical to creating a good learning atmosphere. The word community is sometimes overused and does not get the emphasis it desires. People want to feel apart of something and creating a functioning system is necessary for success. I have always had a love for working with a team and as a leader, I try to help others achieve their goals. If I attended Villanova, I would make the noun community become a verb by helping others, accepting others, and leading others. First, at Villanova, I would be ready to help people when I arrived there. Compassion is one of my biggest strengths and sometimes people just need someone to listen. As a lifeguard, I have to always be ready to help people. I enjoy interacting with people and the daily comradery of working at a local pool. I would try …show more content…
If everyone thought the same, there would not be much progress. Different people can bring different ideas to a situation and that is very important. When I was a peer mediator, I had to see all sides of a problem, and turn it into a win-win result. At Villanova, I would work towards making an environment where everyone felt valued and where it is always a win-win situation. Students do not work well when they do not feel like they belong. I would try to make everyone feel like they are apart of something special at Villanova, because they are. Furthermore, I would be a leader on campus at Villanova. I am a natural leader and I am always focused on goals. As a leader, I work towards helping people achieve their own goals. When people come together to work towards a common goal, amazing things can happen. A true community can only take place when people are working towards common goals. As a swim coach, I get to lead people and be apart on their journey. I try to instil good values and never let them forget to have some fun. At Villanova, I will be a leader and will encourage

A community is a place where people around supposed to be able to live and thrive together. When one thinks of a community, the image that most likely is visualized is one of a place where each person lives harmoniously with all the other members of that community. While this may be the typical image of a community, it is not the realistic view. In reality communities can share both good and bad aspects. In Place Matters: Metropolitics for the Twenty-First Century Peter Dreier, John Mollenkopf, and Todd Swanstrom make the argument that the place a person lives ultimately matters over all else; the place which a person lives effects the choices that that he/she makes and determines his/her ability to obtain a high quality of life.…

Scott Peck, author of The Different Drum: Community and Making Peace, describes community as "people living together in both freedom and love." Communities cannot be formed around people (individualists) who are busy satisfying their own needs first and who are not willing to work hard to make love work. Upon entering this class I realized that a community is not an automatic thing. It does not just appear out of thin air. A group must work together to build bonds between each other. The community in which we are trying to build upon is compiled of many different types of people varying in age, race, sex, class, career, etc. It is going to take some time to build the trust, communication, freedom, and love that we need to form a community.…

I continued to build on this by becoming a student ambassador, where I spend either 4 hours or even the entire night with a prospective student, showing them the campus and all of the glorious opportunities here. As a result of this personal growth, I was privileged to be selected as one of the inaugural shift leaders at Alumni Gym. I am now one of the point-men for any questions or concerns relating to the gym. By becoming an RA I hope to continue this personal growth, becoming more and more well-versed and meeting more and more people on Union’s campus. Additionally, I will be gaining critical skills that I believe will enable me to be successful in life particularly being a leader around students that are either my age or not much older or younger. I anticipate many issues, especially relating to having to be the smart person when my peers are being unintelligent and ensuring the safety of everyone else in my building and around campus. However, in order to grow, one must be faced with challenges, and it is how that individual confronts those challenges that determine how that individual will grow. The leadership opportunity that the RA position provides not only will provide me with immense growth, but will allow me to…

I believe that building the community at Madison mean to me is how we should set the example in the new freshmen. By this I mean is if we show the new freshmen kindness and Link Crew is good. They would also want to be in Link Crew and be a good student due to the kindness shown to them. The reason why I said that is because I say a movie called ‘Pay It Forward’ where a kid believed that a recipient of a favor does a favor for three others rather than paying the favor back. However, it needs to be a major favor that the receiver can't complete themselves. I believe if we do something similar to that then by giving the freshmen kindness they will give the next freshmen kindness and so on. Also we are the first people the new freshmen will meet and see, we are the link for their transition from middle school to high school that will help them when needed. An in return they will help out their community due to help given to them.…

Outside of their parents, the teacher is the next adult figure with the most influence in their lives. I must take every student under my wing and guide them through the year. In order to do that, the environment of the classroom I create will comprise of me taking a sincere interest in students and see them as unique individuals. I will be notice if they play any sports, or participate in any clubs and connect with them at that level. I will also build lasting relationships that inspire and encourage students to be confident with whom they are. Every single student in my classroom will be recognized for the diversity they bring to the community and I will never allow them to think they are less significant than someone else. I want a community classroom that is structured with independence, encouragement, an open-mind, and student cooperation. Cooperation and communication are vital in establishing a classroom because it considerably limits negative situations.…

LET'S GO PSU! eventually, I would like to be chanting those same words. I would have all the spirit in the world for PSU like I have my whole life. There are a couple good reasons why you should accept me into your college. First reason is I'm a hardworking student. My transcripts show otherwise, but that's from bouncing between schools on opposite coasts. I am a student who takes pride in the school I go to and not just for the moment. During the good times, bad times, and even the ugly times I'm still full of spirit. My final reason is that I would be a good contributor to the campus. I love to help out and do volunteer work, because not only am I helping out the school but i'm also making friends and contributing to the happiness of other students and…

One thing that I would love to do to improve my community would be to be apart of a foster family. I would love my family to foster a child, preferably younger than me. This would improve the community in my mind, because I would be helping a hopeless child experience love in a beautiful way. The definition of community is a group of people living in the same place or the feeling of fellowship with others in which you can share your common attitudes, interests and goals. Many people look past orphans and children without homes when you hear the word community; however, that is what first comes to mind in my head. I personally am drawn to orphans, because my cousins are adopted and I personally want to adopt.…

According to the Mirriam-Webster encyclopedia, the word community can be defined as "a unified body of individuals." By this standards, a community in a residential hall should be aimed to create unity and cohesion. The community I would seek to create would be one that would be of encouragement and support for not only my floor, but the building as a whole. My biggest goal in creating a community would be to have residents feel comfortable talking to me, but also one another. I think another thing that creates a community is focusing on making events personal and relational, so that residents themselves can create their own…

I work very hard for what I want, nothing is expected or given. I work well with others, I am truthful and compassionate. I am a very good teammate, meaning that I trust my coaches to make the best decisions for my team even if that means me not playing. I support those who play above and below me and I push them to keep improving no mater where they stand in the line up. My intent for coaching is to teach kids and young adults how to play a sport and enhance their physical skills, how to work devotedly through tough situations, how to work openhandedly with others, and how to develop important social and behavioral skills that will become necessary in their life.…

A community that I belong to is my swim team, and on my team, I am one of the captains. I joined the school team as a freshman and due to my dedication, persistence, and ability to lead I was given the honor of being a captain. As a captain I aim to be a leader that inspires and leads by example. I make sure that I work as hard as the rest of the team, and that they see me as someone they can look up to. Some of my duties as captain are making sure everyone gets into the pool when practice begins, leading cheers to get everyone pumped up before a meet, and making sure everyone gets to their events on time while cheering others on during their events. I also assisted my coach and other captains in organizing events for team building, that introduced…

In education, the term professional learning community is very common. This term, however, can mean many things to different educators. It can be used to talk about extending classroom practices to the community, bring outside people into the school to increase learning of students, engaging students, teacher learning, among other definitions. The main definition I want focus on is professional learning communities as a way of getting teachers and administrations together to enhance learning through professional learning and training. Similarly, professional learning communities as a way of getting teachers together to discuss growth of student through the use of data and students’ work. According to Richard DuFour, Rebbeca DuFour, and Robert…
