Personal Narrative Essay

The illusion of invulnerability is one of the largest causes of teenage related arrests, injuries, and deaths. This was the day I realized I wasn’t untouchable. I do not remember what time the officers grabbed me that night, but I was on the dance floor at a nightclub known as the “Seven One Ocho” and all seemed to be perfect. I suspect perception has plenty to do with beliefs in life, and in this instance my ability to assess my environment accurately was extremely clouded. The next thing I can remember was being pressed to the ground by two police officers, while undergoing questioning and being told I was being placed into custody. The clear reason for this was my being a minor in possession of alcohol and obviously diminished in my faculties.

The drive to the detention center was melancholy at best, not knowing what would happen next, not being able to comprehend that I the once untouchable delinquent was now facing his first night in a cell. Imagine someone who believed they were superman; untouchable, unbreakable, invincible and all in one night becoming just and ordinary bystander. In one night he was exposed for who he really was, simple and ordinary, just like everyone else.

Quick Note - The rest of the night was uneventful, consisting of occasional remarks from passing officers expressing their abhorrence towards “The future generation of America”, obviously directed towards me.

When the bars to the cell finally opened, I had yet to sober up from the previous night’s apparent unruly, crass, and uncontrolled alcohol-induced behavior. Honestly though, I had very little recollection of the entire night beyond arriving at the party with friends. Even today, I am uncertain as to the day or the week, however, I can remember this fact; I had about ten minutes to arrive for my job at the local Best Buy. Fortunately, I was being

On the fourteenth I was assigned to the traffic unit on the night shift. The officer assigned to this position is given a traffic unit police vehicle, which is equipped with more items then other patrol cars. Some of the things being spike strips, laser radars and other various items. When on traffic duty the primary focus is on speeders. We were stationed near I-96 and took radar for the remainder of the night. We cited over twenty vehicles and had some other intense moments. For one of the stops we pulled over a felon that had a firearm in the vehicle. At this moment, my heart was beating much quicker and the situation became much more serious. We radio into dispatch for a priority unit to back us up. We then arrested the individual and drove to the jail. Most of the night consisted on specifically traffic duty with a slight amount of citizen calls.…

In chapter 12, the key event to me was when Claudia and Finn talked to each other through the keys. I felt many emotions when reading their interaction one of them being happy. I felt happy when they talked to each other because it was a turning point in the story in my opinion. I also felt surprised because at first, I thought by having two keys, there would be a lock that would need both keys to hear and speak to each other. I also felt confused by the way they conversed; How could they now hear each other but not before. I think by having one key being touched, the other key can hear because on page 153 Claudia says she breathed and rubbed on the key making it warm and on page 154 Finn says when he touches the key it's warm.I like the way the author wrote the scene from both perspectives, it gave us the readers a clearer understanding of how both Finn and Claudia felt. I also like how the author described the way both keys affect each other and have a "key" connection.…

The date is May 3rd of 2011, in Morganton North Carolina. I had just finished serving 61 days for multiple breaking and entering charges. The dreaded court date has arrived and I am scared to death. Breakfast trays came along, I was hungry but I knew I wouldn’t be able to hold anything down. After breakfast trays were picked up my name was called for court. I was taken out of my cell and put into handcuffs and leg cuffs along with a chain attached to the waist I was dressed in the customary Burke County black and white inmate uniform. This was the moment where I felt all alone in the world. My mom and dad weren’t going to be there every step of the way telling me it was going to be okay. I was 18 years old; in the eyes of the law you’re a grown man and will be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Fear and anxiety were my biggest emotions. We were led to the top of the stairs where our court proceedings would take place.…

People call me old because I like to drink coffee, and for some reason I decided to part take in about three cups before we left home. If you don’t know by now, coffee has a side effect of building up liquid in your body to pee. I was wide awake, but praying we would at least pit stop at a rest area. I saw the nearest sign for the rest stop on Louisiana’s border, and clearly told my grandmothers husband Mr. Lee to stop when we come up to it. He replied “I got you sir.” We drove smooth past it, not even an attempt with the turn signal. I felt played while he howled with laughter. I wanted to smack him smooth across the back of that shiny bald ass head of his. I was in mid thought when I heard the sirens, and a police car zipped…

Finally, when I moved to New Orleans I started volunteer work at the Children’s Hospital and helped with pop up clinics for the Latino community twice. Overall I found that helping others shouldn't be something seen as duty or mandatory, it should be spontaneous. Through others experiences and hardships we learn and grow as human beings, not only did I enjoy helping others but I felt that it helped me with my problems. Having moved around so much and meet so many people and living by myself so many years I came to truly be thankful for my blessings and specially for my hardships. Hermann Hesse once said, "I have always believed, and I still believe, that whatever good or bad fortune may come our way we can always give it meaning and transform it into something of value." Helping others made me realize that we all need help and that my way to help others would be through their health. It also taught me not to judge anybody, especially if you don't know what they have been through. I am hard believer that everything happens for a reason, and all the weekends I spend watching my parents help others helping others myself made me the determined person that I am today. Finally, the most important lesson I learned was to never give up, no matter how hard the task is or how bad the problem is there will always be someone willing to help and you can always be both sides to that, the helper or the one who needs…

After retaking the LASSI I have noticed a considerable amount of improvement as well as regression. In the beginning of the year, I vowed to myself that I would become a better student. I wanted to maximize all of my abilities in order to be successful. So, after I took my first LASSI and had my talk with Mac, I began to implement new strategies meant to help me accomplish my goal. First I had to deal with my anxiety. In past years I suffered with a lot of anxiety while learning math. I used to love math very much, however, this changed after my 6th grade year. Math became a foreign subject to me. I could no longer make connections and solve problems. As a result, my grades in math began to drop. As a person who is used to getting A’s and B’s on assignments, I had a difficult time in coping with my failure since it didn’t live up to my standards in the subject of math. My difficulty with math eventually caused me to have anxiety. I had carried this anxiety until my sophomore year in high school. It seemed as if no matter how hard I tried to concentrate on math tests my mind would always become blank. Luckily I had an…
