Personal Narrative: A Caring Community Empowering Student Success
I am a hardworking student. I have been for most of my life. However, I never imagined the difficulty of keeping up my grades, which later proved to be my biggest mistake. My grades steadily declined before I could realize it. My GPA was at an all time low of 2.7, and at the time, I didn’t care. I just thought to myself that it was not a big deal and I will try harder next year. In fact, it was a big deal, and I did not try harder next year. My first two years of highschool I did the bare minimum. I would complete my school work, homework, and test with minimum effort. I remember when assigned group projects, I would only do a small role, forcing my partners to pick up my slack. I was digging myself a hole that I couldn’t get out off. I …show more content…
It was when I realized I should've never stopped trying. Because when I did it lowered my GPA and would look bad on my transcript. This wouldn’t just affect me now but in my future too. That if I didn’t make a change today where would I go tomorrow. I made a change and I applied to be an ACCESS mentor. ACCESS is an acronym for “A Caring Community Empowering Student Success”. That was just what it was. It was a group of upperclassmen that spent time at the end of their day to help freshmen better adjust to high school. First you have to apply to it and that only a handful are selected. The ones selected then go through training. The lead mentors have more training than the rest. Each lead mentors then has 2 or 3 co mentors per Access. The mentors jobs are to teach incoming freshmen about the rules and about time management for high school. My junior year I was a co mentor and become a lead mentor the following year. I became an Access mentor not only for myself. I did it to teach incoming Freshmen my mistakes and how they can’t make the same ones. Statically Freshmen have the lowest grades of all the grade levels. I was one of them and if I can make a difference I

Throughout my years of high school I have always strived for the best grades that I could attain, and they didn’t come easy. There were plenty of distractions that had driven me off course. Whether it was long hours at practice, volunteering for my community, or having a part-time job, I couldn’t let these activities hinder my grades. This purpose had sprung in me, to not only strive in my extracurricular activities, but also my schoolwork. Balancing both school and additional activities wasn’t a simple task. This led me to many sleepless nights, in which I had to tutor myself on certain topics I was struggling on. This ranged from my hardest subject, to studying extra hours on my hardest class, and even simple topics that I needed extra work…

I learned a lesson all the way back in first grade, and that lesson has stuck with me ever since. I was coming in from recess, and I was talking to a friend of mine off to my left. Unfortunately, I was not watching where I was going. I kept barely taking glances of what was in front of me, and that was a huge mistake. Someone was running behind me, and wasn’t watching where they were going either. As I approached the building I heard yelling, but thought nothing of it. After all, recess had just finished, so obviously kids would be yelling, right? It turns out some kids had been playing tag, and decided to play until they got inside. One that was still running away, because God forbid he’d be “it,” was Nick.…

In chapter 12, the key event to me was when Claudia and Finn talked to each other through the keys. I felt many emotions when reading their interaction one of them being happy. I felt happy when they talked to each other because it was a turning point in the story in my opinion. I also felt surprised because at first, I thought by having two keys, there would be a lock that would need both keys to hear and speak to each other. I also felt confused by the way they conversed; How could they now hear each other but not before. I think by having one key being touched, the other key can hear because on page 153 Claudia says she breathed and rubbed on the key making it warm and on page 154 Finn says when he touches the key it's warm.I like the way the author wrote the scene from both perspectives, it gave us the readers a clearer understanding of how both Finn and Claudia felt. I also like how the author described the way both keys affect each other and have a "key" connection.…

Me being the impatient but helpful person I am I said “yeah sure”. So I moved this little box that any kid in my class could have easily moved outside of her moving it herself. She stopped what she was doing at her cabinet and she showed me my final exam grade and it said 89% B+. A surprised me began smiling excited that I would pass the class with almost a B average for the year. She looked at me and said “T, you are smart. You have given me 40% effort and still somehow you still have managed to pass my class, I struggle dealing with students who are incapable but try hard every single day and you don't show me any effort and still manage to do have a decent grade…” “Why are you afraid? You are easily one of the most gifted students I have encountered and you show no effort?”. I just sat there lost and confused and wondered how she knew and wonder why I had wasted all this time not living up to my full potential, I had let my fear of failure keep me from being the best student I could be. I now look at it and regret the decisions I made in the past. Everyday i have learned to allow myself have higher expectations than I have before. There was a lesson in what my teacher said to me and I will…

My educational goals can be said to be broken down into three parts that are really the means to my ends which is the fourth and most important goal. First, Im working on getting good grades in every class, I want to work on having and maintaining a high competitive GPA. My second goal is to get my Bachelors in Political Science in an ideal time frame of two more years. My third goal and one that is out of my hands, one may say, is getting a scholarship. I know there is a large amount of competitive students in the school, who are well deserving of scholarships but I need this scholarship to alleviate my parents from their stress and hard work to keep up with my payments. It was me breaking down at night,I had to decide what path to take. Days and weeks of being questioned what was I going to do or being told what I had to do. I know that what everyone told me wasn't with bad intentions, they wanted the best for me and their mindset only allowed them to have a certain way of thinking what success looked like for me. It was 3:20 a.m., I was able to hear the clock tick. I had decided, a four year college wasn't going to be the path I took right after graduating. I never had bad intentions, I didn't want to let no one down. At one point I was willing to give it all up for them but I realized I wouldn't be content. I had to do what my heart and gut told me and that was to start of at junior college.…

Everyone wants good grades throughout their years in school, mainly in high school. I am more of a math and science person, other subjects like history and government. Topics like politics, the constitution, the United States Government, political parties and anything else having to do with Government class I had no interest in when I signed up for classes. I know this is something that I should be keeping up to date on because of the upcoming election and everything that changes with the government. The spring of my sophomore year I was looking for different classes to take, I saw AP Government. I thought I could do well in that class, I was motivated to learn something new and excel at something I was not very interested in. The first day of junior year came quickly. Then the first AP government test came even quicker. I studied the night before for hours thinking positive thoughts and finding funny ways to remember different answers. Going into the test I thought I was ready, but when I saw the test I froze. Thinking different thoughts like “When did we learn this?” or “Why did I take this class?”. I pushed all the negative thoughts to the side and completed the test to the best of my ability. The day we got our test back I looked down and about cried. I had never done that bad on a test.…
