Personal Narrative: My Journey To A Community College
I have often dreamt of going to college. The comparison of the different colleges was a learning experience. The admission requirements, classroom sizes, and the costs helped me to decide on which college would best suit my needs. Though I must admit, my affinity for community college had me dispassionate for the university life. The admission requirements to get into a top of the line University can be a little intimidating. From completion of college prep classes to ACT/SAT scores, I knew with just getting my GED that getting accepted would be very unlikely. It was best I look into classroom sizes. During my studies I quickly found that the typical university classroom size was between 50-500 students. The proximity of the students would have been to close for comfort. Moving forward with my research I discovered community classroom sizes consisted of 20-40 students. The relief was lifted, knowing I could sit next to a vacant seat is what I needed.
Lastly was the incessant worries of the costs. With being a wife and a mother, I knew that living on campus wasn’t practical. I would not have to worry about the costs of that dorm room, that most spend thousands on. I went over the tuition and fees for the university. I found that on average a single student is paying roughly 11,000 a year. That is without room and board. With room and board it came to just under 23,000 a year. Meanwhile, being curious about the costs for the community college I was considering. I looked up the costs and it was just under a third of the universities. After a few short hours of comparing the University to the Community colleges. I decided I would benefit from a smaller classroom, a lower financial responsibility, and a more relaxed admission requirements that the community college offered. I can honestly say I feel confident with my decision and less worried about my anxiety sending me into a panic attack that would only land me into the
