One challenge that police officers face daily is the stress that accompanies the job. Many officers face very stressful and intense situations that need to be handled carefully. A police officer may face a crowd that is rioting and looting and is greatly outnumbered. He or she faces the risk of being overrun and this can be detrimental to their emotions. They may be in fear of their life because crowds feed off of each other and can become very aggressive and violent. In some instances the officer will face gunfire and this puts the officer in a life or death situation. If the officer has to kill the subject then the officer may face Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and this can affect their performance of their daily duties and their personal lives. According to (Gersons, 1989) shooting incidents are a rare phenomenon in low violence police work; however, when a shooting incident occurs, the psychological impact for the officers involved may take the form of severe PTSD (Stewart,2011). There are programs that help individuals to cope with PTSD and can get help from The National Institute for Mental Health.…
Several things can be done to help prevent work place violence, and to help work on the solutions of violence in the work place. Make sure your staff is always alert of potential danger and violet behavior that could occur at any time, and are always ready to report it if needed. It is important that everyone on the staff know all of the patients, and know all of their physical and physiological factors in case someone becomes aggressive (Gilmore-Hall, 2001). All employees should be supportive to one another, and always report incidents of violence.…
I had some experiences, such as assisting in the transporting of individuals going on scheduled activities, helping them bath, dress, oral hygiene, toilet, feed and groom, ensuring the environment is free of safety hazards by correcting any hazards found and reporting them to the supervisor, observing persons served for signs and symptoms of disease, injury, reactions to medications, interacting them, and entertaining them by dancing and singing with them. I would like to serve this population as a medical doctor,…
To accomplish my goal I did some refreshment my nursing skill and producers before clinical. I reviewed my nursing skill and procedure to refresh my brain about how to administer parental injection, the right site for IM and S/C, and size and length of needles. I reviewed my health and physical assessment videos and review my nursing skill notes how to assess head to toe and pain scale, Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and CIWA Scale which helped me a lot to refresh my skills. Also, I looked up my previous clinical worksheets which reminded me some nursing diagnosis and…
Initially when I meet my client for the first initial session, I would like to keep in mind the purpose for the counseling session, and establish some attainable goals for both myself and the client. Although, as a counselor meeting a client for the first time may be awkward in the beginning (Laureate Education, 2010d).…
Imaging its a beautiful day in December you wake up to the calming cold crisp feelings of the air the snow is like tiny angels falling from the heavens. You walk down stairs to the welcoming aroma of breakfast filling your lungs as you walk into the dining room your mouth water like the Niagara Falls. You look around only to soon realize that you are home alone with a note on the refrigerator from your parents "we're off to the store we'll be back in less than an hour there is breakfast on the table" after she eat she goes back upstairs to wash up she gets dressed and walks down stairs to encounter her parents are home she notices that they are both unhappy and asks what is wrong she her mouth looks at her and tells her to sit down next to…

In my lifetime,I was struggling with depression and I didn’t have very many people to talk to about it,it all started in junior high up until now.I felt like nobody liked me or just simply didn’t like me in general but that’s not the only reason I also think negative all the time.Over time I just have to learn that life is hard and I may fall down but I just have to pick myself back up.My life hasn’t always been easy I don’t really talk to many people like I use to I don’t even go out of the house anymore other than school I constantly isolate myself in my room and never come out I just trap myself in there I don’t even talk to my parents really because of this.I eventually started overcoming it I mean I still don’t talk to many people but…
Time is winding down and the past thirty nine weeks has been nothing short but amazing. It has been full of different emotions and feelings. From the stretching of the skin to the sudden movement I have never felt before. It was all a new experience, but the feeling was indescribable. After a restless night, the sunrise appeared before I knew it. The pain was unbearable, but after several hours and a couple of good pushes you were here. I was extremely exhausted, but the relief was absolutely amazing. At first sight I fell in love with you. Not for how you look, just for who you are. I never thought I could feel affection like this. What is this? Is this how it's assume to feel or even resemble? It's kind of insane how you, only one individual,…
In the health care industry, it is difficult to get accurate incidence statistics because violence is often underreported. There are multiple reasons why an employee would fail to report a threatening or injurious action, directly affecting his or her personal safety and well being. Because medical services are perceived to be a public entitlement, nurses are often empathetic to the frustration and vulnerability of the patients and visitors and violence is frequently considered to be “just part of the job”.…
While medical care was available growing up, there were financial or situational periods where it was not necessarily accessible. I am from a single parent family. My mother moved in with my grandparents after her divorce and works two full time jobs to help provide for my brother, grandparents, and I. Since my father went to jail and my grandfather passed, we have had to make many adjustments financially. This was the case due to my father not providing payments for child support for the time he was incarcerated nor occasional months prior. There has also been a complication with my mother and I having our identity stolen, which has created additional problems when applying for governmental aid throughout my undergraduate years. I worked…
Due to my father’s affiliation with the Department of Defense, my childhood was mainly spent living overseas in the Kaiserslautern Military Community in Germany. I spent the majority of my time volunteering on the Medical Surgical floor at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, a hospital where military members and their families frequented. One instrumental event that led to my decision to become a primary health care physician involved interacting with a particular patient.…
Being left to fight alone is devastating for anyone suffering from any form of mental illness. If a person you know seems to be struggling then reach out and connect with them. I can guarantee that showing that you care will make a huge difference and possibly save that person’s life. When you find yourself in a position to help someone, feel blessed because God is answering that person’s prayer through you. It can something as simple as the mixed CD I made for Bob to listen in his taxi, it just shows him that he is loved and that someone still cares about him.…
Finally, when I moved to New Orleans I started volunteer work at the Children’s Hospital and helped with pop up clinics for the Latino community twice. Overall I found that helping others shouldn't be something seen as duty or mandatory, it should be spontaneous. Through others experiences and hardships we learn and grow as human beings, not only did I enjoy helping others but I felt that it helped me with my problems. Having moved around so much and meet so many people and living by myself so many years I came to truly be thankful for my blessings and specially for my hardships. Hermann Hesse once said, "I have always believed, and I still believe, that whatever good or bad fortune may come our way we can always give it meaning and transform it into something of value." Helping others made me realize that we all need help and that my way to help others would be through their health. It also taught me not to judge anybody, especially if you don't know what they have been through. I am hard believer that everything happens for a reason, and all the weekends I spend watching my parents help others helping others myself made me the determined person that I am today. Finally, the most important lesson I learned was to never give up, no matter how hard the task is or how bad the problem is there will always be someone willing to help and you can always be both sides to that, the helper or the one who needs…
The standard way of thinking about mental illness disorders has it that every person with the same diagnosis will have their own experience, that impacts the person's thinking, feelings, and mood causing them to not have the ability to interact with others or even function on a daily basis. Not just one event but multiple events tend to trigger the beginning of a mental disorder, Not only does it affect the person with the illness but family, friends, and community is also affected. When it comes to recovery early intervention and support is primal in improving the outcomes and a promising recovery. A very common mental illness that many experience is depression. Many may only have one episode in a lifetime but for others it's all that they…
