It was a cool summer morning in Adair, Oklahoma. I had finally rounded up a few friends …show more content…
to go with me on a nice little road trip to a place we had no idea about. Dominik and Heaven had stayed the night at my house, due to them living in Kansas, they wanted to just stay the night and “party” for the night, which for them the word ‘party’ means almost the same as a good old elementary sleepover of sorts. Josh was running a bit late due to traffic, the morning commute to Tulsa was killing him right now, I decided to wake the two ruffians. Dominik was barely seen under the mountain of blankets covering his wiry frame, and Heaven was over curled up on the couch with only one blanket over her skinny body. I decided to wake Heaven first so she could get herself a cup of the coffee I made, surprisingly she really loves how I make coffee. She slowly stirred until I mentioned the coffee, man, I have never seen her move that quick in the mornings before. She raced to the pot while I woke Dom, he on the other hand was a bit stubborn to wake as usual. He soon awoke as well and joined Heaven in the kitchen and poured himself a cup, his was black and she had creamer and sugar in it. They bickered back and forth about the coffee, and in the midst of it all I heard Josh pull into the driveway. I snuck out of the commotion that was erupting in the kitchen to go greet my cousin. Josh and IMe and Josh have a long history, he’s taken me to Airsoft Tournaments in different states and we even used to record together for his radio show. He shut the engine off and let it idle down before exiting the vehicle, he saw me advancing and he left the vehicle. I immediately wrapped him in an embrace and thanked him for showing up, he asked who else was going so I decided to show him. We walked in the kitchen and what looked like was about to be WWIII became peaceful, Dominik was on a barstool next to Heaven, both laughing possibly about a joke of sorts. I smiled at them and introduced them to Josh, as expected they greeted him with open arms. I asked if we are missing anything before we set out, no one objected so I rallied them to the Impala, Josh was in awe, he stared at the Impala and then back at his 1987 Corvette, he smiled and complimented the car. Everyone piled in and made themselves comfortable, everyone knew their job and did their own little form of inventory. Dominik whipped out the map and compass (we were going old school this time), Josh started budgeting what we have and what is necessary, and Heaven made sure all food and beverages were accounted for. Once that was done we set off.
We initially stopped in New Mexico, Dom was up front map in one hand, compass in the other. Heaven was sound asleep, Josh was looking out the window listening to the radio, and me? I was just enjoying the sights, the air, and the heat. We pulled into the capital known as Santa Fe, now we were in desperate search for a place to sleep seeing as it was about 7 pm and we were all desperately exhausted. We stayed at the La Fonda on the Plaza, it was a cheap deal but great service and only cost us $120 altogether., Inin the morning we set out for a gas station to fill up, thankfully there was a Phillips 66 just down the block and on our way out. Once full we conversed for a bit, chatting each other up to make sure everything is alright, I asked Dominik what the best possible route to take., Josh and Heaven were discussing about the food and beverages to see if we needed to purchase any more. Once everything was settled, we made headway for Flagstaff, Arizona.
We had to make a pit stop in Sanders, Arizona to fill up on gas. The cost was $30 ($150 out of $500 so far)., Dominik and Josh had to use the restroom while me and Heaven talked in the car., Wewe talked and talked for ages until they re-entered the vehicle,. andAnd we were off to see new heights in Flagstaff.
In what felt like an instant, we had arrived in Flagstaff.
We stayed in the Grand Canyon International HotelHostel which costed $80 for all of us ($230 out of $500), we stayed one night and were off to our next stop, Needles, California. But it doesn’t stop there, we were committed to get to Los Angeles before heading home. Josh had fallen asleep this time with his favorite book in his hand (Ender’s Game), Dominik was asleep as well, he had traced the route with black sharpie so I wouldn’t get too lost, and. Me and HeavenHeaven and I were talking for what felt like an eternity., Itit was a good talk, a really good talk and. theThe best part about it was that The Part That Hurts The Most (Is Me) by Thousand Foot Krutch was playing on the radio, mine and her favorite song by them. It was wonderful, we were singing away, smiling and laughing at one another. I woke both of the other guys once we stopped at a rest stop for restroom breaks. Everyone but Josh went, he was adamant that he wanted to finish his book by the time we got to Needles. We also had lunch on the picnic tables there, just some ham and turkey sandwiches. Soon after that we were back on the road., Onceonce we reached Needles we filled up the tank which costed us $50 ($280 out of $500). We stayed at the Budget Inn-Needles motel which. Whi. ch costed us altogether a nice price of $98 ($378 out of
$500).
The next day we started the final leg of our journey to L.A. bright and early to explore the city. Dominik was much more rested than me so he took over driving after he made certain his route was correct. Josh still had his nose in his book and Heaven was sound asleep, she never really was a morning person. We set off on our final stretch and we had plenty of resources. The roar of the engine lulled me into a sleep like a mother rocking her child, after all the Impala was my baby. I awoke to the sound of the engine idling and conversation. Heaven and Dom had been talking about the differences of the Marvel movie Captain America: Civil War compared to the Civil War Comic Book Line. These are my friends and I love them. We were stopped at a traffic light in Los Angeles looking for a place to stay, Dom was a sucker for Japanese culture so he picked the Miyako Hotel, which was only $110 together. ($488 out of $500)
Well we made it, and with only $22 to spare, all in all it was a good trip, nice little bonding exercise. I am thankful that my friends could make it and take the journey of a lifetime with me. It was fun, I look forward to doing it again with them sometime in the future.
