Personal Narrative: Pawnee, Tennessee
While many people would probably choose to travel to another country, a foreign universe, or something even more extraordinary, there is no place I would rather go than Pawnee, Indiana, despite the fact that it doesn’t really exist. Having been a fan of the television show Parks and Recreation for quite some time now, I can confidently say that Pawnee would be the most exciting place one could go. My day would begin with meeting Leslie Knope, an extremely loyal and visionary person who truly believes in transforming not only the parks department, but also the world. Leslie and I would then talk about the everyday transformation of the world we live in. Next to her desk, Leslie keeps a framed icon of the esteemed Condoleezza Rice. This demonstration …show more content…
Later in the day, after spending some time with Leslie, Ron and I would spend the day discussing government, its policies, and how we each feel about these things. Then, I would go with Ron to eat his favorite food, anything that is artery-clogging, more specifically: meat! Ron’s love for “dangerously large quantities of cholesterol” as well as his disgust with government is what makes him such a funny and relatable character. After all, what is more American than Ron’s love of meat? For our last activity together, Ron Swanson would take me to his cabin in the middle of the forest, where we would spend all day hunting and fishing, two things which I have always loved to do. During our time fishing, Ron would “accidentally” get his baiting hook stuck in my leg, which will not be fun but will allow me to learn how to deal with other people calmly, despite wanting to shout at him for the pain he has caused me. While my idealized day had its downs, despite accidentally getting stabbed with a fishing hook, it is truly a shame that Pawnee, Indiana, isn’t a real place. Perhaps one of these ‘tickets’ will exist in the future so that I can really see Pawnee for myself and be able to experience Pawnee and all of its glory. If there’s anything I have learned

When I was in 7th grade I wrestled this guy named Bo Meikamp from Edwardsville. In 8th grade I wrestled him again and he beat me in the second period, and then he ended up placing 3rd at state our 8th grade year. Our next match was at the Edwardsville Freshman Duels and he beat me by points in the third period. Later my freshman year I wrestled Bo at the Conference Championships, and I put everything into that match, but I lost in overtime. I knew that I probably will wrestle him again during Regionals at the Jackie Joyner Kersee Center in East Saint Louis.…

Did you know I recently moved from Tennessee to Nebraska? When I moved to Nebraska, everyone told me how flat Nebraska was, how it was full of fields. In my mind I was reminded of Tennessee with its family owned farms that could stretch for several acres. I realized that though Tennessee and Nebraska are hundreds of miles away they are very similar.…

Our whole wagon train met at the front entrance and we left Fort Kearney together. It was a nice stay, but we had to keep moving. As we were traveling on the trail, we were stopped by the South Platte River. We need to cross the river in order to follow a stream that heads to the North. We check if there were bridges around the place since the water was shallow, but we saw no bridge. We decided to use the sand bar we saw so we can get across the river. As we crossed the river, Michael almost fell off the sand bar with his 13 year old son. Luckily Curtis pulled him up and we were successfully able to cross the river.…

I repeated these words to myself as I looked in the mirror wondering how I could tell Yolanda, Martin, Dexter, and sweet little Bernice… Oh, Bernice! She had just turned five less than a month ago. How could I tell them their beloved father has been shot? How will they understand? Yolanda was the oldest and the wisest. There is no way I could sugarcoat this. I slumped down behind the bathroom door and took a deep breath. What originally began as a day filled with strength, service, and self-reliance had now ended filled with despair, disbelief, and damage.…

In 2008 I moved to Bluffton to help start a new aluminum remelt facility called Alexin. I was one of three invited to make the move from western Kentucky by the presidents of Alexin because of my knowledge of the industry, my reputation as a hard worker, and my positive attitude. In the past nine years a lot has changed. Even though I know longer work in the aluminum industry, I still pride myself on my knowledge, reputation, and attitude. The job has changed, but what it takes to be successfully in any occupation has not.…

Head of the Parks Department, Ron Swanson is typified by his desire for free will, evaluation through reason, and resentment towards large governments, making him a modern-day Enlightenment libertarian. His stubbornness often finds him in conflicts with Leslie, as seen in the “Sweetums” episode. When Leslie protests the selling of unhealthy “Nutriyum” bars and meddles with Ron’s drinking patterns, he thinks she is stifling his personal freedoms. He strongly believes that “the... point of [America] is if you want to eat garbage, balloon up to 600 pounds, and die of a heart attack at 43, you can.” Ron often associates freedom with America, especially when he proclaims, “History began on July 4, 1776. Everything that happened before that was a mistake” (“London, Part 1”), emphasizing his progressiveness as an Enlightenment thinker. Freedom is very important to Ron, as he often justifies his…

*Change isto the world as aging is to humans, inevitable. As I look out of my window, I see all of the changes I could reverse, such as the loss of my favorite tree and the missing yard space where a pool now stands. As I look out of my window I could completely change the setting and move to my favorite place, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Although I could reverse all of these changes and ameliorate my life, these changes have made me who I am today, and they have given me my memories. Therefore, I would not reverse any of these changes.…

Over the past summer I had the opportunity to go to Deep Impact in Shelby, North Carolina. Deep Impact is a mission camp that is run by The Baptist Men that gathers youth groups throughout the state to help the needy and to spread the Word of Jesus. There were different mission teams at the camp and I was placed on a construction team. On my construction team, we helped elderly and disabled people by building wheelchair ramps for them. The construction team had three supervisors, and they made the kids on the team do most of the work. We would do different kinds of work like digging out holes for posts, saw boarding, or screwing in decking boards. I really enjoyed this kind of work and it really made me feel good that when we finished, we were…

I grew up in a two small towns called Ruston, La and Grambling, La. I spent my childhood in Ruston and my teenage years in Grambling. The two towns are so small it's like 1 small town almost. I enjoyed my childhood there. It was a place where kids were free to run and play. Til this day it is still a place where kids can be free and mothers don't have to constantly fret about there child being kidnapped of the street. I remember being up the street outside playing jump rope, volley ball, kickball, football, softball, and basketball with all the neighborhood kids. When evening came and the sun went down I remember my mother standing in the yard calling my name for me to come home because it was getting late.…

Every year, my family on my dad’s side goes rafting down the Truckee river. It has always been a tradition to go to tahoe over the summer, and go rafting one of those days. Over the years, we have had many fond memories, like water fights with water guns, and pushing people into the water. First, we go down to the place to rent the raft, they set up our family with two, and then we go down the river until there is a bend where they take you and your raft out. At the end of the place where you can raft, there is a little grill that we would go to for lunch.…
